I used to watch a series called "Body of Proof" about a top-flight surgeon that lost her nerve and became a coroner after she couldn't cut it operating on real patients anymore.

The protagonist was played by Dana Delaney, and her boss was Jeri Ryan.

Yeah. They don't want to give J&J either. The two allergists she went to see (her allergist that she'd been seeing for a few years and another referral at the University of Washington) said they aren't really sure what caused her reaction and it could be any component of the vaccines that she's allergic to - which J&J and Moderna and Pfizer might all share. They're afraid she'll have anaphylaxis again with another vaccine, which would be catastrophic for the baby. Their plan is to give her multiple days of steroids before giving a vaccine shot, which will probably be done in the first few days after giving birth.

That one trick was herd immunity first, now it's those specific vaccines solving all problems shut the gently caress up live with the virus. I fear the political environment that got us functioning vaccines in a reasonable time frame is dead now. Throwing real resources at a new vaccination approach would mean that Covid isn't over and commercial real estate is vastly overvalued.

Man NZ is a really poor country in comparison, wages are mega low, food, housing and transport are all far more expensive than the USA or UK and the healthcare capacity is very limited but at least it's free if you need it!

I'm not even a citizen (aussie, which is practically the same as being an NZ citizen once you live here really) but I've had a number of rheumatologist consultations including a script for some anti-inflammatories and some physio sessions, all free. My partner broke her ankle mountain biking, free, the government even offered free taxi rides for her to get to and from work every day for the duration of her time in a cast if she needed it.

Just about the only medical expense that isn't covered here is dental lol, because your teeth aren't part of your body and they have zero effect on your overall heath right? Just blows my mind that even places with strong socialised health care still treat dental as a completely separate thing that you have to pay for.

I waited in a hospital room on pain meds for over a day before a surgeon got to me, because apparently they had three even more severe cases come in around the same time. After surgery they showed me a picture of my swollen and grey appendix and said I probably had a few hours left before it popped, no need to worry.

It turned out to be her ponytail pushing the straps too high, so the top of the mask got slack no matter how much tightening was done. Putting the pony tail lower entirely removed the fit issue.

hmm looks like race baiting poo poo.. better take the information presented at face value

There's a lot of race baiting poo poo in the Australian press about families "breaking quarantine" at the moment, with the cops enabling a lot of it. There was a recent case with 5 covid + people in NSW who apparently met up to sit around a table on the footpath outside a house and the press were OUTRAGED and the next day when the cops turned up in full head-to-toe PPE to do another check on them the press even had helicopters flying overhead to film the entire thing. Turns out the 5 men are all Muslim, they're all quarantining in the same house and the table had been inside the property line and not out on the footpath so they hadn't broken any quarantine rules.

The ultra-orthodox Jewish community is also getting itself into the news a bit, there's been a lot of rabbis speaking out and saying "Don't meet up to hold prayer meetings, we need to stick to the lockdown rules, Judaism makes allowances for situations like this" but just a few days ago we had an incident where up to 100 people secretly met up to celebrate Rosh Hashanah and when the cops arrived they just refused to come out. The cops were of course NOT going to storm in there and drag people out because that would be Bad Optics but they nabbed people as they eventually started coming out, fining all the adults $5,000 each. A bunch of them apparently managed to escape by jumping fences and climbing over neighbouring roofs and the cops are asking them to come forwards and hand themselves in.
