Here's to ya, JACKASS

I really liked the 2 song EP they put out a while ago and pre-ordered the CD of this and was kind of disappointed. Gonna give it a few more tries and see if it grows on me.

Weirdest thing is that I was listening to the new Exhumed EP and then spotify autoplayed that sinister song afterward. Then a few seconds later my friend links me sunami and i thought I was having a stroke.

im actually about to go into the venue to see exhumed right now. im only here to see enforced and creeping death tho and then im leaving lol

sunami is fun for like one minute and then everything is exactly the same over and over and it gets extremely tiring. and i love/grew up on tough guy smooth brain hardcore

Enforceds new record is rad, I hope they play down here soon.

And yeah there’s a reason hc records tend to be about 8 minutes long ha.

I was tempted to go to that show at Saint Vitus, mostly to see creeping death…

But Undeath got added to the Genocide Pact show, and inter arma/artificial brain is coming up, oh and frozen soul/sanguisugabogg, then there’s primitive man and blood incantation :woop:

What is the best power metal album ever, and why is it Blind Guardian's "Nightfall in Middle Earth"?

i've been revisiting some of the countess records i hadn't heard and the revenge of the horned one albums are seriously weird as hell, it's cool. on the first one there's a song where he just puts in a 10 minute long psych guitar freakout out of nowhere and the second one has totally inexplicable nonsense synth jamming and bizarre cartoon vocals, among other things.

Actually it's Sonata Arctica's "Winterheart's Guild", but I'll allow Nightfall in second.

Ok ok matters of taste and all that, but naming anything made by Sonata Arctica as best anything offends me on a deeply spiritual level, and I demand restitution.

As far as straight up power metal cheese goes, Winterheart's Guild might be my pick, too.

If prog-power records are included, I still haven't found anything in that vein that I like more than Manticora's Hyperion:

Well if we're considering non-BG candidates for best PM album ever, nothing Sonata Arctica ever put out can hold a candle to Kamelot's Karma (or any of their Khan era albums for that matter).

Nordick
Sep 3, 2011

Yes.
Well, Ecliptica does have this certain nostalgic, naive charm to it, but yeah I'd say Winterheart's Guild is probably their actual best album (Not that it's a super high bar).

Their best song is San Sebastian, though.

I like Khan far more than Tony Kakko, but Winterheart's Guild beats out all the Kamelot albums for me. Khan's better project is Conception, anyway.

I loving love Conception, In Your Multitude is one of my favorite albums. Roy Khan probably has the most beautiful voice in metal (sorry Tony Kakko, I love you too!)

for the record i wasn't making GBS threads on power metal, i genuinely do believe that brute force demo is some of the best power metal there is.

unrelated, i've been listening to [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fK11OPuBsY]this Calyx album[/i] a lot recenlty (especially the songs Bosque muerto and La venganza de las brujas). It reminds me of someone, but I'm really bad at recognizing which artists remind me of which (aside from super obvious ones like Kvist and Deathspell Omega).

The best power metal album is Gamma Ray's Land of the Free. Sonata Arctica have never written a song half as good as Rebellion in Dremland or Land of the Free or Afterlife.
