It must be fate that has brought us together after all these years.
The ugly steam version had an all Rages achievement and an all Lores achievement so it'll be on the PR list too.

Jesus Christ why? Like, getting all the lores is just a waste of time but for every Meteo, Air Slash and 100,000 Volts there’s a dozen chaff rages that actively make the command worse because you have to sift through them for the one you want.

Heck, if they decided to go the FF3 PR route it would be pretty cool if they still had the Veldt as is but only had a menu of like 40 rages.

Yeah I think V and VI might just go un-platinumed. I'm looking at the missable enemies list alone for V and I'd rather just play the game instead of alt-tabbing to a missables guide every time I hit a new area.

Yeah I'm not bothering with all the cheevos either. It makes the game way less fun.

Is there a recommended job level in FF5 where you should switch jobs? Like other than when it's obvious you need a certain party for a certain boss or dungeon?

I've only played FF5 once before a long time ago and never finished it and I really don't remember trying to break the job system over my knee.

And also what are the absolute must have skills for a non 4JF playthrough?

the game isn't like 3, you never need a specific job for any dungeon or anything, and there's no penalty for switching jobs so just do it whenever. For example, Geomancers don't take damage from lava so if you need to walk over lava, just swap someone to geo for a sec

The general "most broken combo" involves Dual Wield from mastering Ninja (so you get it on freelancer passively iirc), then equipping RapidFire from Ranger, and Spellblade from Mystic Knight

But that's not your only choice either, Chemist's Mix is probably one of the most broken commands in the game on its own, Bard songs are really good and it's not difficult to get them all, all the mages (smn included) are extremely good, Blue just requires slightly more work. The only exception is Red Mage which is only useful for getting Dualcast and putting that on a different mage, but it's honestly not really worth the grind, you can break the game over your knee without grinding the 999JP to get !Dualcast on someone

Basically FFV is less about "will I be able to break the game" and more of a choice of "how would you like to break the game"

Aside from the typical rapid fire+spellblade:

Master summoner, give !summon to a zerky, and give the zerky the rune axe.

Air knife boosts air spells like aero and yes slydra. Air Knife'd Syldra is the highest damage summon per mp unless you boost water damage through chemist drugs.

Sadly, I think they're the same as in all the other pixel remasters. I'm gonna be bummed if they pull this for FFVI, too. Things won't be the same if the fire spells don't go Campfire-> Flaming slash -> Atomic bomb

Already prepping myself for disappointment, but also the possibility that it will be fixed by modders in approximately 4 seconds flat.

Trying to remember if they ever fixed the physical evade and sketch bugs for FF6Advance... I wanna say it was still present for the PSX Collection version at least.

This actually can effect what equipment you pick because in the original version you could just stick force equipment on someone and make them virtually unhittable along with absorbing or taking half damage from all elemental types.

The C&P spell effects between games does seem like an oddly lazy flaw in an otherwise excellent series of remasters. Have people started modding the original effects back in at the very least?

Mostly Harmless
Getting into my FFVII playthrough now, and I have to say, if I was a space alien with no prior knowledge of the series and you showed me both 7 and 8, I would probably think 7 was the later release. Everything just feels a little more polished and coherent than 8. There were a lot of places in 8 where it was a frustrating game of "find exactly the right pixel to activate" to flip a switch or pull a lever or whatever, and even just navigating around the screens felt jankier than in 7 where for the most part it's a lot smoother to move around and hit whatever you're supposed to hit. The gouraud shaded character graphics in 7 are simpler, but in some ways they fare better in an HD upgrade than the texture-mapped models in 8, especially for the models used in battles.

They kept making the characters and backgrounds more detailed in each 3D game. Personally I think 8 came out mostly beautiful but 9 took it a bit too far. The remastered 9 looks great but IIRC in the original version I had trouble even telling what I was looking at / where my characters were in some of the busier screens.

Having a blast playing FF 5 pixel remaster. The job system is both amazing and the worst thing ever. Amazing because I can customize my party any damned way I want to, and those learned abilities are really rad. It's terrible and the worst thing ever because I want to level every job on every character _right now_.
