It may be that she was finally caught out as being a psychopath who enjoys hurting people and was being punished but my reading was that the Aes Sedai were voluntarily binding themselves and she thought they were insane for doing so. If she's telling the truth then there was at least one oath pre-breaking. The oath rods was originally used in the Age of Legends to bind criminals so they couldn't commit crimes as a form of punishment, it's the same rod just used differently 3000 years later.

Found these reaction videos of some non-readers and really enjoyed them. It's neat to see them arriving at some correct conclusions for the wrong reasons. They correctly guess Perrin is a "wolfboy", but they think it's because a trolloc bit him. Like being turned into a werewolf. And given the clues on screen their assumption is entirely plausible. They pick up on the gender juxtapositions. Egwene being ready to drop Rand to pursue her destiny, and Rand being bitter about it. Normally it's the man ready to drop the woman to "pursue his destiny" They were disappointed that Valda was a bad guy as the first really dark skinned person. And call him "lord of the rings". Lots of arguing about what happened to the ferryman and if Moiraine was culpable for his death. Hilarious joke at Perrin's expense about his dead wife when he's carrying Moiraine on horseback to Shadar Logoth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCh6Z24Pydk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYlpNu9mSbc&t=4s

If she's telling the truth then there was at least one oath pre-breaking. IIRC Semirhage said she was given the choice of being stilled or having a binder used on her and seeing her life cut short. I wasn't sure at the time if that was because of the way it lowers their lifespans or because she was somehow stealing years from other people though. It said that when she healed people she took a little something from them. Though that could just mean the pain she inflicted
|
# ? Nov 24, 2021 21:08 |
No, it outright says that she causes them extra pain in exchange for healing. I did enjoy that she apparently asked for a little time to consider her fate and the law enforcement then was just like 'ok sure!'

I think she did mention that the binder would have reduced her lifespan though? At least in a passing way, like an early hint to the reader that the oath rod was cutting years off the AS lives

From the AMA this was the most interesting bit to me: Rafe Judkins posted:A real focus in streaming nowadays for all of the networks is "pace" and "bingeability". Anecdotally (and apparently statistically now), tons of non-book fans made it through the first episode and right into the series without stopping down or turning it off. I'll have to keep that in mind when my head canon feels violated and I wish they would spend half an episode on my favorite bit from the books.

El Grillo posted:I feel like the only way we would've got a better version than the one we're getting now, is if HBO had picked it up. But then it would presumably have had to involve the mandatory minimum minutes per episode of soft core porn + gore stuff. HBO has the GoT prequel House of the Dragon coming out which is the only thing mildly interesting to me. Probably not enough for me to sub again. Meanwhile Amazon has WoT and a LoTR show coming up in September of 2022. I liked The Witcher on Netflix although the strange sex orgy scenes were bizarre and unecessary IMO. I can't muster any interest in a season 2 of that.

I think maybe my favourite youtube video of all time (I think I am slightly distressed to discover that I have) was this one where a guy does a teardown on one of those fancy juicero juice presses or whatever it is. Money shot: he finally gets to the gear train, opens it up to discover these MASSIVE, pristine slabs of metal, these enormous, beautiful gears in there. Incredibly overbuilt. You could probably call that a reaction video, I guess.

He turned out to be a bit of a chud, but that's AvE, the video's title is "BOLTR: Juicero, Cold Press Juicer for Rich Weirdos". He used to do some really good tear down videos, with nice information about the materials and design process. And yeah, the Juicero is an amazing machine. Actual super high quality parts for some juice bags you could squeeze with your hands, lol.
