McNugget Buddy posted:Blood draws taken between ages 7 (after 2-doses of MMR) and again at age 17 to show how antibodies waned: Huh. Neat. Well, not neat, but you know what I mean. I know I said it like last night, but seriously. This thread has taught me so much of what should be - to me, a person who does not work in healthcare or science - pointless trivia. Instead it's vital information that I must carefully consider and weigh to make decisions that will determine whether or not I or my loved ones die or get brain damage. Because the government has completely abdicated any and all responsibility and shifted that burden unto me. Fun!

I am so glad I spent all that time putting together scientific literacy materials for the OP that everyone is ignoring to slam down twitter accounts they can find to confirm their prior beliefs. There is no evidence that SARS CoV-2 will cause disease, that's really loving important and already in contradiction to the doom being spread about the virus. You are literally condemning responsible scientific communication because it won't let you doomsay hard enough.

Paradoxish posted:The moment we completely gave up even pretending to do anything was the moment when boomers got some level of protection. We tossed kids under the bus while we were still keeping restaurants shut down. Not really. We lasted as long as the middle class was OK with half rear end working from home and was able to start up all sorts of home gyms, home activities, start online masters degrees (seconds or thirds) but the moment they got sick and tired of having to babysit their own kids, wanted to have a waiter instead of uber eats, and wanted back in a gym that poo poo changed immediately. All the poo poo we did was just long enough to secure the middle class into it's new economic status and then we stopped giving a gently caress. That's why the hot takes from the right are now "we should force people back to work at their old wages or bring back child labor" and the arguments from the left are "we should let the non vaxed die and also not pay for their medical bills".

RoboChrist 9000 posted:So I know there are biological differences between females and males - apologies if I'm using the incorrect terminology WRT trans rights and whatnot. My understanding was that 'women' and 'men' refer to the social construct of gender while 'female' and 'male' being clinical terms, were more the - still somewhat constructed - biological terms - but what could be the mechanism here that would cause females to suffer it more? Like I thought the general understanding at the moment was Long COVID was the result of COVID either running wild and attacking organs, or COVID causing blood clots and stuff? I think long covid might be several different things not well separated at the moment. One of them seems to be chronic fatigue/me which has sometimes previously been linked to post viral onset and is definitely much more common in women. I wonder (pure lay conjecture) whether it may have to do with a hormonal problem that would be better understood if more research had been done on women's periods. It's kind of not an easy thing to study because most medical research can't really economically follow biological cycles so long, and they vary so much from woman to woman. Severe fatigue is definitely associated with some PMS cases, but not permanent. In any case, we would be in a better situation if medical research didn't regularly exclude women like it has "for simplicity."
