Yanking this from the No Book thread.

I have two theories about this.

A) Mat is going to get sort of healed of the dagger, and lose some of his memories. And he's going to fixate on Uno who's going to use all the book swears we are used to.
2) Once mat gets his memories, he'll start using those swears as they come from another age.

we're definitely gonna see elaida in this episode or next since they are skipping meeting her in caemlyn. probably some scene to establish a rivalry with siuan, moiraine, or both. i would expect this to be a slow paced game of thronesy ep with lots of talking and setup because everyone agrees the one after is a banger. any other predictions?

Given that we know Elayne ain't showing up until season two, odds are Elaida will show up escorting her to the Tower from Camelyn.

Dumb question, what does she actually even do in the books other than seeing symbols around peoples heads? It's been a while since I read, legit don't remember a single significant action she performs.

Emotional labor for Rand, which is critically important.

Additionally she's instrumental in Last Battle strategy regarding the seals because of her philosphy hobby.

And her viewings are extremely useful for basically everybody.

An alright dude.
I'm about half way through Fires of Heaven. Its pretty good so far. Rand's story with the Aiel is interesting, although I'd like seeing Mat have more to do really. Aviendha and Rand finally hooked up ,but now its all "Oh what about Elayne". Anyway its pretty good but I honestly don't care about Siuan and Logaines story that much. Hopefully Nyaive and Elayne meet up with the exiled blue Aes Sedai soon. I remember Nyaive accidently curing Logaine so I look forward to that moment.

I'm slowly going through this Rosamund Pike EotW (because I've been training people at work the last few days so I've had less audio book time.) She actually sings Thom's song in Baerlon. I kinda want her to do all the books so she can sing every song in the series. In a way her reading reminds me of full cast stuff because she takes acting out each part very seriously.

Be seeing you.
I didn't want to ask in the TV thread since it's sort of spoiler implicit, but is there any part of the books that the show creators have explicitly said they were skipping? There's some obvious ideas like condensing books 7-10 and whatnot, but I was wondering if they've outright committed to passing over certain specific plotlines as ill-advised, unfilmable, or whatnot.

Swearing is one of those things that's hard to get right, because if it doesn't land just right it completely ruins the mood you're trying to set for it. The creators of Deadwood famously decided on using anachronistic swearing because they tried period correct swearing and found that it made all their characters sound like Yosemite Sam.

I think it's going to work out similarly here. You'll never get things like "sheep swallop and bloody buttered onions" or "mother's milk in a cup" to land. "Flaming" doesn't really sound like real swearing, it sounds like the kind of 'frakking' replacement that shows up on network TV when they want to drop an f-bomb but cannot. The only one I think that would land properly is "blood and bloody ashes" and that's because the bloody Brits have acclimated people to 'bloody' being used in that context so it sound genuine.

I've been a huge fan of the Kramer/Reading versions for years (except Eye, which is a really bad copy audio-wise)...but Pike's reading of Eye is just on a completely different level. She pours every bit of her acting ability into it.

I'll re-buy every one of them if she records them all.

That's why i'm leaning to one of those two versions, because it would be a specific thing to show that it's different from the rest. Especially if it's the older memories, it'll be wildly different from anything anyone else is saying so it will highlight the difference.

Going to disagree here. Frack worked fine in BSG, because the actors delivered it wholly unselfconciosly. As long as the cast (except Elayne, who is parroting things she doesn't fully get in-universe) can do the same, the book swears can work.
