That more recent tweet of Dan’s is clearly a joke. As for the earlier one, he could’ve worded it a bit clearer but he’s definitely against the people doing the dunking, hence the part about them “pretending that DnD has never mapped real racial stereotypes onto its fantasy”.

Even if it wasn't intentional, ignoring the actual harm you do is bad, and not removing it when it lead to more harassment is even worse. But really why is it that a lot of people who claim to be writers / work with words suddenly don't understand what effect their words have on social media? Knowledge to invoke emotions within people and knowledge to (at least somewhat) control what people do with those emotions are two separate things. That said it is embarrassing that people who are media critics both fail to fully grasp their own mediums then see any attempt to fix and/or take responsibility as either too big to do or just open yourself up to the grinder. That's an half truth that doesn't excuse nothing doing at best. However, I don't see how those tweets that's saying " I can't get mad about a take when the objections are denying the real racial and political history of what's being read into" is anything like Hel puts it. Unless an explicit endorsement is needed for it to not be an dunk. Apathy is not really hatred. I'm not denying that even people who support those tweets could've misread them that way but unless you're advocating all discourse become unequivocally Mobproof (That's not possible even for political in-groups especially in late catipailsm hellchambers) then that's more on them and Dan needed to dunk on those people too at most.
