You have been called out, in the ways of old.
Sony doesn't like it when you use Microsoft-bought items on their platform, they never got their cut after all, yet they are hosting you. There's big exceptions like a fair chunk of Destiny 2 DLC, but on the whole they bristle at it.

So the general thinking is that Square is presenting this as a remake of FF1 with named characters for the party members, but the twist is that the four MCs become the four fiends/Garland that the actual party fights in FF1? Haven't been following it closely and didn't play the demo, mildly interested but it isn't totally clear what's official and what isn't.

I haven’t played the demo but iirc the fact that Garland’s health bar title was “Chaos???“ tipped people off to the later confirmed twist that Jack’s full name is Jack Garland. The Four Fiends thing is speculation but really since they confirmed Jack Garland it’s not much of a stretch.

Tbh im interested because of the YouTube shitpost videos and the actual game looks legit fun to engage with, if it’s story is enjoyable-bad that’s a bonus but I just finished KH3 and as batshit as that story is the execution is mostly bland, so im kinda skeptical.

One other FF7 thing that kind of amuses me is Cloud finding Cait Sith's ultimate weapon in the Shinra HQ your first time through and going "I'm not taking this, no reason to take anything we don't have a use for." I know it's just so you can't get an ultimate weapon in the first few hours of the game, but Cloud has no problem taking and holding onto Vincent's guns or Yuffie's weapons. I guess you could argue that at least those are weapons and a megaphone isn't (and there's no way Cloud could predict that someone would join them who uses them), but there's still stuff like the 1/35th Soldier or the Tissue Box or even the fake Masamune that serve no purpose but Cloud is happy to take them.

Really the only downside to holding block all the time is the slower movement speed. It’s good to get into the habit since the dodge roll has no invincibility frames and is rarely a better option outside of attacks like the Guard Scorpion Scorpion Sentinel’s shockwave.

Thankee kindly.
I feel like VIIR probably has one of the steeper learning curves in a FF game? Quite a few combat mechanics are easily missed even if they give you a tutorial, and even then it's a very involved game.

Even in games like XII/XIII/XV your NPC buddies will usually be able to handle things eventually, but in VIIR you do have to take reins and swap often.

Which is fine, but it's probably not a 'I just want to shut my brain off and play some mash-y video games' option.

It's an action game compared to an RPG. It's only really comparable to Lightning's Return in the franchise.

Grave? Shovel! Let's go.

I wish I could love the remake. I got to wall market and had to put it down and I never really picked it up again.

I don't love the battles and the game is SO loving SLOW. I completely understand that they had to pad out Midgar but Cloud moves around the fights and the slums like molasses, the party members don't do poo poo unless you're switching around to them all the time and it's way too on rails for my liking.

It does look loving awesome though. I think they absolutely nailed the slums and the graphics and the extra stuff they added to puff it out. It's great to see FF7 in real life, so to speak.

Nah, they know that early on and just want to find new ways to kill the planet. They only change their mind after their CEO has a near-death experience because of his own actions.

Which to be fair is still fantasy.

It's the opposite of slow though, is the thing. The constant swapping around characters and using abilities off c/d keeps you moving constantly and if you know what you're doing battles are over incredibly fast. Like on hard mode I was having issues keeping up with all 3 party members cooldowns while juggling attacks and spells and poo poo in some of the digital arena fights.
