Looking it up on the wiki, Tam's sword was power-wrought, but not significant other than that, and is destroyed by Ishamael.

Power-wrought blades weren't just for Blademasters, they were mass-produced soldier's weapons.

Lan's sword was a common soldier's sword back in the Age of Legends, so it's not heron-marked. Rand's sword belonged to a blademaster in the Age of Legends but other than that it didn't have any specific provenance that's mentioned in the books.

Are you suggesting the Amyrlin is still aligned with her old Ajah? :thunkher:

The Aes Sedai answer to this is that they started the Dragon-hunt before Siuan was raised to the Seat. She and Moiraine started it as junior Blues because they were the last two living people who knew about Gitara's vision, and they kept it secret because everybody else who knew about it came down with a severe case of "murdered by the Black Ajah". So they did make the decision to cut Maigan and the other Blue sitters out of the loop when they were both Blue sisters.

The real answer to this is yes, I am absolutely suggesting the the Amyrlin is still aligned with the Blues.

All this commotion about Siuan and Moiraine's first interaction being "contrived", but isn't that pretty much exactly what happens in TGH when they meet for the first time in the books?

Siuan books it to Fal Dara and everyone just assumes it's because she's super pissed at Moiraine. Liandrin escorts Moiraine to Siuan and tells her she's about to get her reckoning. Moiraine makes sure to walk out of the meeting trying to look like she's shook, which works.

Then Verin blows it all up by letting Siuan/Moiraine know that she remembers all about their old Blue alliance/friendship? In fact, when she drops that bomb Siuan and Moiraine both freak out and were getting ready to do something to Verin with the One Power, although I'm not sure what the Oaths would have allowed them to do at that moment.

So, Liandrin crowing about Moiraine about to get hers. Siuan/Moiraine making a show about Moiraine being chastised. Siuan being called out for having Blue allegiances. Siuan/Moiraine visibly freaking out.

Isn't that pretty much what was conveyed in the show? I will agree the dialouge is clunky at best, but they're getting the main beats of the story across IMO.

Well when you combine this with Mat having overheard said Forsaken wanting to kill Elayne (in TDR), having both pieces should be enough to warn Moraine, Egwene, and Elayne. Like I’m pretty sure Moraine and Egwene knows about what Mat said so this would just be further confirmation.

Also I’ve gotta believe Mat told Rand that Morgase’s lover wants to kill his new girlfriend.

I could have sworn Matt did tell Elayne at least, and Elayne did that 'my mother would never do that' reaction?

It's been forever, but I thought it was mentioned, and told from Elayne's POV as something Matt had said and she dismissed it.

College Slice
The thing about Morgase is that it's actually safer for Rand to not go over there until he's absolutely sure he's ready for Rahvin. That was the whole point of Rand running off to the Waste--he can't afford to let the Forsaken on the board to dictate his moves and he can't reveal what his weaknesses are or the Forsaken would go there and do the damage he's trying to avoid.

Hence why he completely ignores the Two Rivers as well.

I've been saying that, and what I mean is that the situation as a whole is contrived. Mainly what I'm talking about is that if you assume that one of the points of the scene is to show that Liandrin is a real political threat, you have to assume that she knows that Moiraine isn't just out of the Tower doing Blue poo poo, but rather she's off on her own personal quest that nobody knows about. That way when she brings it up, she knows that Maigan will be forced to shut it down, and the fact that it was raised but not answered will provide a smoke screen that she can hide behind to avoid being punished for issuing highway justice.

That being the case, isn't it lucky for her that Moiraine just happened along after she had been pushing to gentle Loghain so hard that even if they hadn't gentled him on the road, she might well have at least gotten a stern warning about what the job is supposed to be? Maybe you could say that Liandrin's got deep pockets of secrets and if it wasn't that it would have been something else, but then we're left to contend with the question of why Siuan wasn't prepared for her to have a deflection ready. So when I say it's contrived and she benefited from bad writing, I mean that they built the situation to build up a villain and in setting her up for the win, they don't seem to have fully considered the implications of what happened.

I agree that the scene is a decent adaptation of what happened in the book, and to the extent that it serves the beats from the book it did fine.

Great use of show don’t tell, and perfect example of something that makes use of the visual medium and does something that maybe wouldn’t have worked so well in the book because it would have had to be all spelled out in internal monologue or someth—“

And then the show spends three minutes with the two of them talking it out in pointless painful detail. Feh

I'm not sure how people think it could have been written any better.

How was Siuan supposed to deflect it? No matter what, she had to hold trial on what Alanna, Liandrin and Moiraine did, which I'll note, Liandrin was the one who kept whispering to the other sister about prematurely gentling Logain AND took the reins on actually doing it after the aftermath, while everyone was afraid. So no matter what, Liandrin always gets an opportunity to raise the issue. Siuan can't just shut her down because of the point raised that she might be favouring her old ajah. So she had to outright ask Moiraine.

Maigan tried to shut Liandrin down, of course she did, she had no idea because Moiraine refused to tell Maigan anything about what she was doing, and I don't think Maigan was expecting Liandrin to pull the move that she did at that moment. Both Moiraine and Liandrin screwed her in that scene.

Moiraine didn't really have much better choices either, she needed to go to the sisters because she was poisoned, and ended up being involved in the gentling. And she had to go to Tar Valon either way because that was the best place to wait for the kids.

Nobody had good choices in that scene beside Liandrin.
