Speaking of, holy poo poo Yoshi's Crafted World is beautiful. I know it's sort of shallow gameplay

I wouldn't say that, there's a lot of challenge stages that switch it up in later levels, like a punching Yoshi robot, a level that's almost entirely hidden behind screens, a kart racing level, and a lot more.

Plus if you're trying to go for 100%, the extra challenges on the secret final boss are pretty much the hardest things that have ever been put in a first party Nintendo game.

They’ve patched some of the later QoL features into the earlier games over the past year, and that includes S1. The later games do have more types of puzzles (color picross, etc) than the first couple do. You could start with any of them if you wanted, they all have the same tutorials to get you started.

Switch Online was completely down earlier this morning, so this is a slight improvement! But yeah, just tons and tons of new people got Switches for Christmas, while the bots got PlayStation 5s to sell on Ebay. :v:

Has anyone had an issue with the Original Switch where;

1. Switch declares it's Low on Power;
2. You plug the Switch in to Charge it and leave it for several hours;
3. You return to find the Switch hasn't charged and will not switch on or show any signs of life, even whilst plugged in;
4. You don't know what to do and you got Metroid Dread for Christmas so this is pretty upsetting?

Yeah.

As it goes I got it working via holding the power button for 15-20 seconds, waiting 10 seconds, then powering it on.

The repair isn't massively hard, so getting it repaired is an option. Especially if it's a pre-patch one. The symptoms sound like the battery is dying and returning voltages outside safe range. That's why you don't want to leave it charging, the battery protection circuits depend on the voltages being correct.

But yeah, time to start considering a new one.

Well, this isn't really the news I was hoping for :smith: - I'll look into a repair and see if it's feasible.

Regardless, I appreciate the advice. Thanks!

Ugh. I put down Metroid Dread for a bit. Just decided to pick it back up and I'm stuck. I'm in Ferenia. I fell through some one-way blocks... and it seems the only way out of the area I'm in is to target a bunch of green lights connected to more green lights on a block. So something like a missile diffuser? Do I have such an ability? I don't remember! I had a look through my status screen and mission log and I don't see anything that sounds like that. Can anybody help?

If it ain't one of the pre-patch ones - check your serial number if you don't know - Nintendo has the best quality battery replacements, but they are easier than any given Apple phone so you might just find an electronics repair shop locally too. Post-warranty repair from Nintendo is... troublesome.

If it is a pre-patch one, sell it and buy a new one.

Did the green light in the dock flash when you plug it in? Try leaving it plugged in directly by the cord for a while after holding the power button for like thirty seconds. Then let it charge for a long time.

Of course if the battery is swelling up that's bad.

I mean, I know what that advice is a variation on - it's to charge up a lithium battery that's drained below safety threshold.

This, however, was a device at low battery that was plugged in to charge and went unresponsive. That hints at the charging safety tripping. A battery draining fast and far enough for the safety threshold to be relevant would also be an immediate fire hazard. Any way you slice it the advice is really bad.

And they're called safety thresholds for a reason. Granted, it's going to be fine most of the time if the device drained from being left unused for months, but it's still a safety measure.

Do not apply homespun wisdom and life hacks to loving batteries.

It's a successful and repeatable method to make a fully-drained Switch resume normal operations, if that's the situation? If you think you've been charging your console but haven't and keep pushing it, or leave it alone too long in the closet, it's going to be severely undercharged.

Is there some kind of hack you can do to a pre-patch switch that makes it sell better, or just a particular place to sell them? I've got one, but I'm only seeing them go for 250 or so locally.

Got to find someone who specifically wants a pre-patch Switch.

Locally, it's by word of mouth. Honestly I'd at least consider SA-mart.

It's not that big a price difference. Except when it's faulty. A pre-patch Switch is likely to be bought by someone who already knows how to replace a battery, so the fault is much smaller a hit.
