Lately I am kinda liking 'Taekwondo Kid' on webtoon. The art is not gonna blow you away but it has its own style. I think what really makes it work is the MC is kind of average trying to get better and the author/artist really capture well the nerves you get before competition etc. Even the really confident martial artists are all kinda low key trying not to freak out before getting on the mat etc and that was really relatable to someone who practiced and competed a lot at that age.

I think Eleceed might be my Favorite Manhwa right now. Its nice to have a fun action fantasy series that isn't isekai/cultivation/VRMMO. Just a fun series with a lot of goofy cat faces. Taekwondo kid is interesting, but I find the main character kind of boring so far, and the weird health bar addition to Taekwondo tournaments is kind of unbelievable to me.

Its a kind of basic isekai, but I have been enjoying Latna Saga: Survival of a Sword King, I think the humor and characters are pretty fun. It is an interesting take on isekai, with a decent cast of characters.

Yeah definitely, TKid is not some amazing manwha but the characters are kind of interesting and not as formulaic and it really captures the actual mindset of high school athletics in ways that a lot of other sports manga etc miss on which is kind of nice. If you're into sports stuff its worth a look but probably passable if not.

I hadn't heard of Latna, will check it out.

I think the highest praise I can give Solo Leveling is that it's MC is not a complete sociopath like so many similar-story MCs become or start as. He still cares about his loved ones, he even expands the definition of them with how he takes care of the healer girl, the association chief, the vice chief, how protective he is of his friend he made the guild with, etc. The entire point of him being 'solo' is that he is taking all the world's burdens and trying to do everything for them, not because he's an antisocial prick who hates everyone.

It's refreshing with so many sociopath MCs who only say they care about people to manipulate or abuse them for their own ends.

the highlight of the epilogue is when he met the guy he killed and turned into a big tanky shadow soldier again. the guy felt an inexplicable deep connection to him and thought it was love. otherwise it was exactly as interesting as you'd expect for an invincible god living a mundane life in a mundane world with no threats or challenges.

eleceed is pretty great but the school arc pulls in some of my least favorite xianxia tropes [spoilers for school arc]

the sects build a school for training kids/newbies, separated into elites/commoner courses, and the headmaster of the school explicitly doesn't want any of the commoners to receive any real training, to the point of telling the teachers to stop training them. then they organize a "fight" to have an excuse to beat the poo poo out of the commoner students. if the organization is so hostile to the commoners at the highest levels why even have a course for them in the first place? if they want to teach commoners why allow the headmaster to be a guy who actively tries to stop them from being educated at all? especially since the school is brand new, it's not like its a new and controversial edition to an old school. or why would they not just have two separate schools?

then later in the arc one of the sect heads barges in and goes "i'm killing this kid. problem?" and everyone just lets him. again, why even make a commoner course if they don't even care if they're publicly murdered for no reason? if this is such a might-makes-right kill-or-be-killed society that doesn't give a poo poo about commoners and weaklings, why would they even build a school that allows them to attend and then fail to protect or teach them?

by comparison, a returner's magic should be special has a similar school with a commoner/elite divide, but there it ties into the narrative of a society that recently experienced a massive failed commoner uprising, so the aristocracy both hates and fears the commoners. the division and discrimination is a reflection of a fractured, changing society. in eleceed they built a brand new school to pick on people.

At least Girls of the Wild's (you forgot the apostrophe!) went bad pretty early, so I lost hope in it long before it got close to ending.

I wish they had kept the main character fighting in some capacity. Not because I want him to get strong or anything, but because I liked the dynamic of the girls training him.

I checked out a couple new additions on Tapas:
The Book of Lagier
A demon king makes a contract with a lovely fat prince and ends up taking over his body and having to fulfill the prince's final wish: world domination. This one was really mediocre. The MC wasn't very likeable but also wasn't sinister enough to feel really evil and it was mildly comical but not silly or funny enough to really carry it that way. I read a handful of chapters but felt like this one wasn't doing anything terribly unique or interesting.

Knockin' on the Dungeon Door
A guy finds the front door of his apartment is now connected to a dungeon; he nearly gets killed so he holes up inside afraid to go back out, until he's the only person remaining who can clear it and is forced to start exploring it but in the process he gets some cool skeleton buddies who help him. I've been enjoying this one; the skeleton pals are pretty fun and the worldbuilding setup is kind of interesting since it's similar to other things where people get awakened as hunters but in this case it's because their house got stuck to a dungeon and they can't escape. There's also a secret organization supporting the MC and a whole online community and economy that works in vague magically unexplained ways (like he orders poo poo and it just shows up at his door, inside the dungeon, in a regular delivery box). He's on his way to becoming seriously OP but has more or less worked for it and it gives you a pretty good sense of how time is passing and he's having to grind and train -- his main cheat is being able to tame dungeon monsters and ending up with skeletons who had a lot of experience in their past lives and can teach him stuff. It's not amazing but has been pretty fun to read.

Couple series I started reading recently :

1) https://www.webtoons.com/en/action/teenage-mercenary/list?title_no=2677&page=1 - It's like Full Metal Panic, but Korean, and minus the giant mechs. Kid survives a plane wreck but loses his memories. He's brought up in a war-torn area by a mercenary company, but after rescuing some soldiers he regains his memories and decides to try living a normal high-schooler life. Cue him just utterly wrecking the poo poo out of bullies, gangs, and everyone who gets in his way. Surprisingly wholesome when he's being kind to friends/family. I've been seriously loving it.

2) https://www.webtoons.com/en/fantasy/the-lazy-lord-masters-the-sword/list?title_no=3349. Also known as 'The reformation of a deadbeat noble'. After witnessing his mother die in front of him, the MC sleeps all day every day. Then he dreams of a man who spends 35 years training with a sword. When he wakes up, he's compelled to pick up a sword and train. The lazy noble MC who only slept all day is driven by his dream to become a swordmaster, though he doesn't fully understand why. Along the way he makes friends with others who are striving to become great swordsmasters.

Webtoons have the official translations but both series have unofficial translations that are much, much further. But both series are DAMNED fun. Teenage Mercenary (Also goes by Mercenary Enrollment) in particular has some pretty great action scenes sandwiched in with wholesome 'fish out of water' scenes of the MC's slice of life.

Teenage Mercenary is fun. Equal parts good action and changes pace to wholesome. Kinda like Eleceed in that regard but Eleceed is way more over the top cute about it.

favorite part in TM so far is when the MC comes back to talk to the gangsters who he helped because they helped out his sister, beats up dudes then leaves barely saying a word. Right after the younger gangster looks at the boss and is all teary eyed "that was so badass" and the boss just laughs. Was a funny scene.

My favorite bit is easily when Grandpa tries to get some young punk to park his car elsewhere and the douchebag tries to get up all in Gramps' face. So one of the gangsters Ijin befriended steps in and takes care of the punk, and Gramps recognizes him as Ijin's acquaintance and takes a selfie. Seeing big badass gangster stepping on the little douchebag to defend Ijin's grandpa was loving great. Even if Ijin completely misinterpreted it.

correct (manhwa btw)

"romance" is pretty broad, do you want like modern day settings, fantasy stuff, M/F pairs only or are you open to other options like M/M or F/F, looking for drama or more light/comedic tone? Most of the romance manga I read is BL but not exclusively, but it would be good to narrow down what you're more interested in since there are a *ton* of romance webtoons out there.

It's the right thread. Poster above asked some good questions but I'd recommend "It's a Good Day to be a Dog" which is now completed on Webtoons and the author has a 2nd series that is also good (IMO) "See you in my 19th life"

Both are romance stories at heart but with an odd fantasy wrinkle (MC turns into a dog at inopportune times in the 1st one, the 2nd one deals with an MC that retains her full memories from each of her past lives which leads to some interesting moral / ethical issues).

I am also very broad. I will read pretty much any of those. Time period, orientation etc. I tend to prefer happier ones if that makes sense but im not against a bit of angst.

I like older protags? Like working age? But ill read school age ones cause eh its all fine.

I read the dog one and am reading the 19th life one ( the cameo in that was nice) just finished bittersweet couple (i think) which was fine.

The villainess ones i liked and were probably my entry point. True beauty is fine but doesnt 100% grab me. I like it but it feels a bit drawn out.

Id prefer completed to ongoing because i like to binge read them?

Apparently the True Beauty author looks uncannily similar to the protagonist of the webtoon (and there was some dumb controversy with a bunch of people accusing her of having cosmetic surgery)

The main thing I like about True Beauty is that the protagonist is an extremely accurate depiction of a teenager. I'm not sure if this is actually intentional, but she's basically dumb and unreasonable in ways that that accurately reflect the way actual teenagers behave (whereas most romance or romcom manga/webtoons/etc with teenager characters basically just have them act like little adults who happen to be very invested in school-related things)

The actual story and characters otherwise aren't anything to write home about so I'm not sure if it's the sort of thing ZeusCannon would be looking for (though I strongly recommend My ID is Gangnam Beauty that I mentioned before), but I appreciate how the protagonist actually behaves realistically for her age.

It's probably worth going ahead and registering an account -- a lot of the sites do daily unlocks where you can read 1 chapter for free or will give you tokens for logging in daily you can use to temporarily unlock chapters so it's not a requirement to spend actual money. If you do buy coins/tokens/points, you're basically just exchanging some cash into whatever the site's currency is and then you unlock chapters permanently with that. One benefit to unlocking permanently is you generally retain access even if they lose the license to distribute that comic.

Webtoon artists feel the results of piracy pretty deeply and I've seen several post that they are quitting or cancelling planned story expansions because seeing their work uploaded everywhere and not earning anything on it is so demoralizing, so I do encourage folks to read via legal channels whenever possible.
