To this day the only direct comment I've recieved aside from a couple of kids that said hey cool mask was from a dude who walked into a walmart at the same time as me who just said 'you're really wearing a full face respirator up in in this bitch' and then we both laughed and went about shopping.

It’s pretty darkly funny that there’s a whole nation going “oh no how could this have happened,” except for one state where they’re like “yeah we’re not doing that.” Things there must be just as bad as everywhere else, right? Because there’s nothing anyone can do to prevent any of this so we just have to move on, right?

After vaccines we Opened er Up until school started/our Delta wave spun up for real then I sent my wife a link to AJs Twitter and she got spooked (maybe a bit more than me even), and everyone kinda did whatever except without much ridicule because we had opened up for so long.

Then everyone else got Omi in this wave and half are scared of reinfection and half are ‘’ I’m immune now!! ‘’

Rapid tests rarely get reported - and everyone is taking rapid tests now....because they're pushing the rapid tests.

Australia's case count 'peaked' and started dropping at the exact same time that they told everyone to not get a PCR test unless they were symptomatic or had been instructed to get tested by the health department because they were a close contact of a known case, and everyone else had to rely on rapid tests. People who pop positive on rapid tests have to make a report on a hotline or website so it'll be counted but rapid tests are super hard to find at the moment, there's stories of people driving around to every pharmacy in the area and they're all sold out for days.

Also 90,000 PCR tests in Melbourne got thrown out because the labs were so backlogged they couldn't process them in time. Friends of mine had their entire family come down with covid so they all went and got tested and then 10 days later they got a message saying that their tests were no longer viable and they should go get rapid tests. :v:

Our family came up with a common consensus when it was clear that covid was going to land us in the poo poo, and it was that we would follow all the important precautions, if we needed deliveries we'd get them non-contact only, and if anyone was dumb enough to play fast and loose with safety precautions, they'd be cut out of the family effective immediately. And thus far, it worked well enough. 3 families living under the same roof, and none caught even the glimpse of covid, leave alone covid itself.

The sad reality of life is that a lot of people are prone to huffing their own farts or blindly believing in the first convincing person to tell them what they most want to hear.
