One of those steps is absolutely gonna snap off, setting off a chain reaction that snaps off every step below it. It may also snap the bones of which ever unlucky resident breaks the initial step.

Fwiw "witch stairs" is a brand-new name for them; the name only started in 2021 and there are no traditional beliefs about it. I'm guessing it was coined by association with witch windows, which are also faux-mythic but at least date back a little farther.

A couple of pages back there was a house with an absolutely glorious Bradbury & Bradbury wallpaper set. It may not be your preferred style, but it is mine, so . I liked this place: https://www.etuovi.com/kohde/20570369?haku=M1788237400 Dreaming of a farmstead of my own some day. A timberhouse like this from the turn of the century is the ideal. I love all the fireplaces (but not enough pönttöuunis IMO), and I really like the wooden stove in the kitchen, a Högfors like my grandparents used to have. Gotta say I liked the overall look of the kitchen too. Very warm and cozy. This place is not for me (wrong location, the wrong time), but something like it one day is the dream. I really like my current place too, so it's gotta be a perfect place to get me to move away.

Is a wardrobe a must in an entré? A lot of interior design photos, at least of the Scandinavian variety, use benches, shoe trays, wall mounted knobs or hooks or dumbwaiters instead. I think I could pull that off since I am single, but maybe that's wishful thinking?

I think I could pull that off since I am single, but maybe that's wishful thinking? Depends if you can tolerate being able to see coats and boots and things of that nature or if you need to put them under doors. In the US built-in coat closets are the norm but many people still use a coat rack for convenience' sake (and to let them dry out) and then the coat closet gets used for out-of-season outerwear.

Post your entryway and how much stuff you need to store in it! I live in Chicago, so I have a bunch of bulky winter gear that needs to be jammed into a closet 8 months a year, but it's desperately needed those other 4. If you're in Florida or somewhere comparable, you'll have much different needs.

I am in Norway. I have storage space for days elsewhere in the apartment and common areas. I can put away most gear I don't use. And I would much rather wear a wool sweater and a cleverly insulated coat in the winter rather than straight up winter gear. I am more worried about guests, but I guess they could just dump their jackets on the bench if I ran out of knobs or whatever. Excuse the messy IVAR, I just moved in and I have not gotten around to putting everything where it needs to go yet. The room is 175 x 350 cm (5'9" x 11'6“).

If you're only worried about guests, I can't see why a few hooks and a little area for shoes wouldn't be sufficient. It's weird to go over to someone's place and have nowhere to put your coat, but hooks pretty clearly say "put your coat here!"

Quick sourcing question. I'm beginning the project of turning my atrium into a tiki hideaway, and I want to cover the white stucco walls of the atrium with something like those plastic greenery panels lime the faux hedge stuff. So my question is - is there anything like that which doesn't look cheap and trashy? I'm ok with it looking artificial since, you know, tiki, but I don't want typical big box store quality which will fall apart in a year. Thoughts?

How y’all feel about tvs mounted on the wall? I feel like the floating effect only looks good if all the wires are hidden. And even then I prefer the tv actually resting on a credenza or something a lot of the time. I only prefer floating tvs when space constraints absolutely demand it.

ll tvs and all entertainment centers should be floating w hidden wires. Fewer things with legs on the floor the better imo.

Our bedroom windows are short and wide, with the bottom about four feet up from the floor. Would floor length curtains look silly here or should we be looking at blinds?

Ornery and Hornery posted:How y’all feel about tvs mounted on the wall? Form should follow function: if the right viewing height for the TV puts it at table height, it goes on a table. If the right viewing height puts it higher, it goes on a wall rather than a stupidly tall table. If it sees so little use that its appearance while off is more important than comfort while viewing, just sell the thing and don't have a TV at all.

Naturally your television should be mounted to a swing arm in the upper corner of the room, preferably where glare is most severe
