For a death to be impactful it should either happen EARLY in the story to act as drive and motivation and give the readers time to come to terms with it. Or it should come at the End with No celebration to follow. Aces' death worked because there was no party after, just more tears and blood the death of Belle Marie works because it happens well before the climax in the story and made Arlong getting beaten down more satisfying
