That’s fantastic news. The Mangaka is really talented. I love the world he creates and the art style he uses.

Loving Soara as well.

Uron Mirage was funny, even though I didn't feel entirely sure what it was parodying (which is weird given how many different shonen manga I've read). Actually, I guess it's funny precisely because I'm not quite sure what it's parodying; it's refreshing after all the explaining-the-joke in the two student council chapters. The "confusing"/"mysterious" plot/setting elements (especially the scene with the commanding officer) make me think of Attack on Titan or maybe Fullmetal Alchemist, but the character dynamics and tone (except for the ending) don't really fit.

I don't know if you're supposed to view it as a direct parody so much as the most generic shonen series.

I really liked it, the writing was very confident and the art was great. I felt drawn into the character's stories and I came away with an understanding of a form of theater that I was unfamiliar with.

It reminded me a lot of Kingdom Hearts. Like, a LOT like Kingdom Hearts, im sure there’s plenty of other series that have those tropes and drop vague allusions to bullshit for fans to endlessly speculate on but it’s probably the most ubiquitous instance of the kind of storytelling/writing Uron Mirage is taking the piss out of.

Mash: such delightful nonsense. Such smacktalk. I love the audacity of this manga so much.

Sakamoto: meh. Cool I guess.

Dooron: meh. I feel like the artwork is letting this down.

Ayashimon: I feel like the artwork really helps sell this. Guess someone is getting their poo poo punched in.

I haven’t read the rest yet.

And yeah, I liked the first chapter, but it's definitely going to live or die by how the story continues on from this point. Also the subject matter of rakugo is both niche and something that's kind of hard to do in manga format, since it depends a lot on character mannerisms and voice acting. I've definitely been spoiled by having watched both excellent seasons of Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu first, since that portrays the artform with both a greater visual and audio component, while telling a very effectve drama and tackling various themes such as traditionalism vs modernism, preservation vs evolution, and the like.

a spunky kid trying to make their way in a tiny, insular and conservative field which is basically owned by their enemy isn't anything original, but it is a popular premise for a reason. it'll all come down to execution, and the first chapter was decent enough.

Yeah I enjoyed the first chapter. I think it did a good job of showing the dad's anxiety. I hope to god the dad didn't kill himself or something, there's a lot of interesting places the story could go - if he quit rakugo but she becomes successful, how will he react? Will he become jealous? Will this be a redemption story of her supporting his lost passion? Lots of possibilities here, really excited to see the next chap.

In other news, Bandai held a Roboco lottery / gacha.

Akane-banashi: Enjoyable start to the series! I really dig how they visualize the characters the dad is playing, the swerve at the end took me off guard, and I look forward to seeing how the MC forges her own path. Even ends on a nice cliffhanger, cause she's about to go to a show held by the same dude who expelled her dad.

Ayashimon: Decent chapter.

Elusive Samurai: Hell yeah, the least-explored character gets some time to shine!

Mashle: drat Mash busting out Naruto and One Punch Man references in a single chapter. What a chad, I thought I was reading Roboco.

Roboco: Speaking of Roboco, I enjoyed this chapter a lot. Very cute and tons of nice faces that are also references to other series. I dig it.

Sakamoto: Good chapter, lots of action, Sakamoto rules.

Over the past few chapters, Ayakashi Triangle has apparently abandoned all attempts at an overarcing plot, and now is instead all about The Horny :sigh:

It's a shame, really. The plot was fine, the art was fine, but they just HAD to go all in on the softcore porn side.
