Ya this isn't WW2 where there are dedicated arms plants running flat out 24/7, and it's not the Cold War where there was always a low thrum of heavy arms manufacturing. It will take ages to replace every lost tank, armored vehicle, and plane, especially when no one is selling them any materials needed. It's also a good bet that Russia is using "the good stuff" in the invasion. I also haven't seen anything about Russian logistics. If Ukraine really drags this out, does anyone know the feasibility of feeding Russian troops or keeping the tanks running while they battle in the interior?

So what are the odds that Putin's SUMMON THE OLIGARCHS meeting is going to be a Red Wedding/Kiss the Ring affair? Putin's mask-off now; consolidating power at home would seem to be next on his to-do list. Seriously asking; their proxies (duma ministers) have already been dragged over the carpet to mouth support for this war, so does he now feel the need to impart that on the bosses?

Friend posted:Inflexible meaning if they have orders to do A and then they show up and realize they are expected to do B, they just say "does not compute" and give up? I'm grossly simplifying. Russian troop training is like this - they learn how to, for instance 1. march through steppe 2. assault an infantry base in a steppe 3. defend a steppe infantry base from a helicopter And the combat orders are like attack commands for Pokémon, where they combine different moves they've practised in the past. This leads to a very steady execution, and resilience to electronic warfare and whatnot, as your tank will just be following a sticky note (really simplifying here, I want to emphasize again), but then if poo poo goes really off the script (e.g. Ukrainians soldiers turn out to be armed with Javelins, not bows) then the recovery is tough. I remember reading an article about this recently, but I cannot recall where was it published.

I don't remember Russia's global fertilizer contribution but it's sufficiently huge to affect global food prices if interrupted. Impeding the Russian global contribution of laser neon will adversely affect chip costs. And of course energy supplies to Europe. The West must be willing to accept these costs and I'm sure crazy Putin doesn't believe they will for the long term. For the short term, Russia has a pile of cash to ride it out. So this is a long term issue and Putin probably believes the West will blink first.

Anyone actually cheering on a Russian invasion is fundamentally not a leftist because it is an imperialist, capitalist, right-wing regime waging near-unprovoked war -- that is clearly opposite all leftist thought and the only people who would post in support are anti-west and anti-US empire above all else. I do, however, find it extremely hard to "cheer on Ukraine" because their government also really, really sucks, it just sucks less. I just don't want war.
