Never Too Small is great, but I wish it and other staging-focused interior design things would feature places at night, as well. I know why they don't, but I've lived in tiny apartments and houses for most of my life now and I'm almost more impressed by a designer who can successfully create a cozy, welcoming space at night than an airy, light one in the day, particularly in smaller places. It makes me sad that that's so rarely a focus.

That last place is begging for some color but I do have to admit there's something hypnotic about such a consistent color scheme and I love those floors so much that I can understand why someone would say "the whole design should worship the floors by echoing their colors."

after many samples I decided to actually try color for my bedroom paint, blue with a bit of a gray undertone. And I quickly say why whites, grays and neutrals are popular for walls - they don't attract all your attention. With the color I choose you are immediately like OMG A loving WALL. I think if you have a lot of art or other stuff that works with the paint it's not as bad, but if it's not as filled it's just overwhelming. so now, blueish gray, not grayish blue I was at the paint store, and I saw someone looking at paint. they were comparing a benjamin moore sample to the color on the website. i knew i had to step in "it never looks right on the phone" i said they agreed, we had a convo. she wanted something that looked like the color on her phone. quickly we realized soft chinchilla could fit the bill! but i had to ask, what was her lighting like? which ways did the windows face? she wanted to paint something on some material and just hold it up to the wall, but i said no - i can't let you do that. you need to paint on the walls, and big squares, on all the walls, and view it in all conditions. she thanked me. i said, it's no problem. this is what i do another woman said she wanted to paint swiss coffee with warm trim. i said swiss coffee has a green undertone - be careful - cool whites with warm trim can conflict! don't make the mistake I did.
