That Aeviterne album is cool if you’re into the whole NY dissonant death thing. Multiple members of Flourishing are in the band and it shows, plus the bassist of Artificial Brain is on guitar. Too bad they are on the shithead label.

The new Ghost album sounded like Weird Al to me and I was like what the gently caress is going on. I put the first album on and he doesn't have that same inflection. Kaisarion is a loving horrible track to lead off with. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kt6Ss5r7-qo

Absolutely could not be me walking through one of the largest Catholic college campuses in the US listening to Solution on that Flames of Fire (lol) album and having the biggest "oh loving duh this is Christ rock" moment like it's the end of The Usual Suspects or something.

Yeah, they're great. Some of them play in Blood Incantation and Stormkeep, too.

The studio version is a little better, but its no track to start off a show or an album. I remember when they used to have creepy music, mist and all that with papa coming out bellowing 'lucifeeerrrrrr' to get poo poo going.

I like black metal but it's a genre where everything blends into the same thing too often for me so rarely check out new stuff. A good gimmick to separate themselves out a bit goes a long way. If they made a film around this, maybe it'll be the first western I give a poo poo about too!

Im the same way when it comes to BM. A BM band needs some sort of gimmick or cool thing to set it apart to make me interested, whereas im happy to listen to "Bong Weed Wizard" "by "Pipe Pot Sorcerer" and other generic poo poo

https://youtu.be/O8Qx963lvNI Saqraruna's "Under the Light of Mountains" takes me back to the days when black metal still had some street cred. Before bands like Gorgoroth flopped around like waterless fish searching for Satanic riffs on the floor of an alcohol-soaked pub; riffs that got lost in the shuffle and stress of trying to cater to an audience consisting of pop culture fanatics. Before Dark Funeral lost the entire plot and fell all over themselves trying to recapture some of that old Swedish black magic; magic turned sour by a need to pay off some longstanding debt and a heavy longing to be accepted by the lowest common denominator in a quest for endless cheese. I don't know what more can be said about this album. It's what my ears needed to hear in this future time where black metal is just something we reminisce about because no one makes it anymore. Saqraruna takes everything about black metal you love and wraps it up into a true black ball of rolling, glowing, Hell-energy. A ghastly, ghostly trip into the old church, with swirling anti-melodies forming a lightning strike of darkness. It's rare for a new band to get my ears back to the old days and it's even rarer for a new band to make me reminisce fondly about those old days. The feeling you felt the first time you heard black metal is here to re-introduce itself in "Under the Light of Mountains."

Terminal autist posted:I think the problem with BM is a lot of the compelling and unique stuff is NSBM I don't think so. There's a lot of great BM out there that's non-political or outright leftist with a compelling sound, some of it made by indigenous people. https://blackbraid.bandcamp.com/album/barefoot-ghost-dance-on-blood-soaked-soil https://sahhar.bandcamp.com/album/ti-rif-tal-nus And of course Wayfarer was already mentioned, Untamed Land is another band in the wild west-influenced theme. Waldgeflüster and Windfarer are good if you're into the more melodic and atmospheric sound. Wolfhand, Thermohaline, Spectral Wound, Mare Cognitum, that's just off the top of my head what I've been listening to lately. I don't think anything of any particular value is lost by boycotting NSBM. No riff is that good. KozmoNaut fucked around with this message at 08:47 on Mar 22, 2022 |

remigious posted:What is nsbm? National Socialist black metal, also known as NSBM, Aryan black metal, and Neo-Nazi black metal, is a political movement and subgenre within the black metal music scene that promotes neo-Nazism, and Fascist and white supremacist ideologies.[1] NSBM artists typically combine neo-Nazi imagery and ideology with ethnic European paganism, Satanism, or Nazi occultism, or a combination thereof, and vehemently oppose Christianity, Islam and Judaism from a racialist viewpoint. NSBM is not seen as a distinct genre, but as a völkisch movement within black metal. According to Mattias Gardell, NSBM musicians see this ideology as "a logical extension of the political and spiritual dissidence inherent in black metal".[2]
