Lol of course we lost to Tennessee Tech

Tech lost their non-conference mid-week game against Oklahoma. I feel like we have 2 pitchers right now and an OK bullpen and streaky hitting. That's a good recipe for winning the conference and winning the super series, but not great for the regionals or CWS format. Still fairly early in the season, and Tadlock's teams do peak in June more often than not. I'm a few days late on this, but Tyrese Hunter is entering the transfer portal, and it looks like the main factor is trying to get more NIL money. Not a knock on Hunter, but this poo poo sucks, and has always been a concern of mine with the future of ISU athletics. ISU's athletic budget has always been on the low end of the Big 12 and P5 teams. Having to compete with bigger/better funded schools for NIL money too is going to be hard for us to do. We just don't have that many big money boosters. My prediction for the future of ISU basketball is they're going to have to settle for incoming freshman who haven't made a name for themselves, and transfers looking for a second chance. As soon as someone gets too good, they'll bounce to a school for a pay day. Maybe ISU can pull some money together, but I think it's going to be tough to compete pretty soon.

R.D. Mangles posted:Jay Wright retired. This reminds me of my personal favorite flightaware coaching search tale that lasted for about 8 hours. When Mizzou fired Frank Haith there were no leaks about the coaching search for the first time in forever from a notoriously leaky university as to coaching searches and conference changes and everything else. Speculation was all over the place, they were being cheap or they were willing to throw all the money in the world at whoever, etc. I'm sure if we went back far enough in the CBB threads you'd see me mentioning weird names like Ben Howland or something regarding this search. Some sports talk radio guys noticed a private flight from Columbia, MO to Philly which obviously meant Mizzou was going after Jay Wright. Now this was crazy at the time, but not as completely insane as you'd think today if they were willing spend a whole lot. Wright had previous success but around 2014 he's also had a bunch of first round exits from the tourney in the last few years. It was never happening but if you squinted hard enough (like really damned hard) you could believe it might. So anyway these radio guys start talking about this and won't shut up, other press picks it up and starts making calls and trying to figure things out. This all happens very quickly. So when the jet comes back there's a whole press gaggle outside at the airport waiting to see Jay Wright walk off of that plane. Four very confused wealthy farmers walked off wondering why everyone was covering their annual golf trip. Fun story. Missouri would go on to hire Kim Anderson and the program died, which is less fun for me, but still, that's pretty good.
