Jaboticabas are delicious, I grew up climbing the jaboticabeiras to eat them. Never realized how weird they look.

I was directed here by the OSHA thread because I are dumb. Not sure where to post this but my landlord's new tenant in the garage apartment behind our house did this and I think it's a fire hazard. Am I overreacting? That's an incandescent bulb with basically no clearance to the wooden structure being left on all the time. He installed the light fixture himself too. I tried to speak to him about it and he told me to gently caress off.

You know, I heard blood straight from a freshly butchered cow tastes like liquid steak. I wonder how dog berries taste. Probably good enough to eat more than one.

Zil posted:So say you find that in your house/building, how quickly should you be looking for a hotel room and lawyer? In no particular order. That beam is hopelessly compromised, but the impact on the building it's a part of is impossible to know without more information. It might just reduce the safety factor in that part of the building, or it might be a "this could fall down at any time" kind of thing. I believe the correct course of action here is to call the city planning and building department to report an unsafe construction. They'll send out an inspector, who can make a proper assessment. That may well include saying "okay, everyone get out of the building, it's unsafe for habitation until this is fixed". I believe that in most places, the owners of the building would be responsible for providing / paying for alternate habitation, though probably the specifics depend on location.

At least being metal, it can be welded and *probably* be fine without replacement of the entire thing.
