I didn't realize just how much water damage my ceiling in my bathroom had until I removed the popcorn and noticed the sagging drywall. The water damage was due to a leaking vent stack boot that was replaced with a lead(?) vent stack when I had the roof replaced. My house has heavy knockdown texture on the walls and I hate it, but it would've been too difficult to flatten by hand-- and probably too costly to tear the house down to studs and replace all of the drywall.
