Dear lord trying to get the Freighter you want requires saintly patience.

Edit: Just to check, I'm in a wealthy (T3 Economy System) that spawns the freighter style I like and that is pretty much all I can do, right?

Edit2: Ok looks like the answer is "yes" finally done, thank the lord.

I feel like they sort of implemented something like that with this patch? I've been noticing in at least some situations stuff goes elsewhere instead of "the inventory of the thing I'm actively in" but I haven't really dug into exactly what determines what goes where in what situation, and I expect that "Freighter storage containers" are off-limits for that.

I was savescumming them because after however many months it's been since settlements dropped I was still at 80/200 population and thus far literally 0% of them succeeded, and I was honestly curious if it was bugged and the things just couldn't succeed ever

Just did a sanity check with storm crystals, in a mech suit and out, and it does seem that if you have an unfilled stack of something in an inventory that's accessible (including "your freighter's main and cargo inventory", if you have a matter beam), the game will prefer to continue adding to that stack instead of starting a new stack in your/your exocraft's pockets, and will only default to those if picking up another item would actually create a new stack

so as long as you stack most things in your freighter/cargo and don't cap those stacks things should stay "consistent-ish", which is nice.

I think your dream aerial one is special and S-class by default, since you go through the hoops of questions for what the initial bonuses will be and C-classes explicitly only have one to start

everyone else might get the same model in that system, though

I think this was an change that came with one of the many updates: it's funny that missions often don't mark a precise landing location anymore... but you are perfectly free to use your starship to scope out the general area and land next to the building you have been sent to interact with

Not being sarcastic, it's a neat little detail

It's a fun little "ha ha I don't need to land and scan for a mission target" when you spot it nearby, but god drat if it's not irritating when you're sent to one of those extreme mountain planets

that said it's always good for a giggle when it's an expedition rendezvous and you're slowly gliding around looking for something suspect and all of a sudden a planetary archive tall enough to technically be outside the atmosphere snaps into view

This one seems to be the most commonly referenced but the trick with modding this game generally is a lot of the mods need to be updated every minor patch, which means "updating or possibly rewriting from scratch every 3-6 months", so there's a lot of outdated mods and a bit of KISS from most people in terms of the scope of mods you actually install, and rarely is there enough overlap in that to get into the nitty gritty outside of "just use whatever the official nexus mod manager app is nowadays"

If Hello Games ever officially stops updating it might settle down enough to get more serious efforts and QOL for the modding itself but so far that doesn't appear to be on the roadmap

That explains a lot. Everything I had built got blocked off, luckily it was only an hour before finishing the expedition.

The easiest way would be to hang around the Anomaly, waiting for someone from another non-Euclid/non-Calypso galaxy to pop on, and then warp to their base from the big teleporter.

If you'd like to coordinate something with me, I can get you into a lush (I heard it was super lush?) 19th galaxy, Isdoraijung. Let me know.

I would say only to go for specific planet/system types. Like a lush galaxy (Eissentam /Isdoraijung) have a higher number of lush and/or paradise planets. But there's little reason to go from one galaxy of <type> to another galaxy of <same type>. Unless I'm missing something?

Different galaxies offer more chances for systems to have different types of planets. Eissentam for instance has a higher chance of paradise planets etc.

Right now, you can go to the Anomaly transporter.

Go to the Portal and warp to the Polar Express base that's featured.

Ta-da! You're now in Eissentam. Enjoy your stay.

Or, if you want to go kinda legit, you can just spam the first icon in any galaxy's portal. That'll get you very close to the center. Just stock up on repair kits, lol

My permadeath story is that I tried a permadeath game a few weeks ago while waiting for the expedition. I got a few hours into it, got a frigate and built a small base and all the rest before I started the Artemis story line.

At the stage where you use the first holocomminicator it was raining radiation so I was all "gently caress this I'll jump down rather than using all those ladders". Except I didn't have the jetpack mods to do the whole fall gracefully and got gibbed.

Would rate permadeath as well as anyone who sticks with it: 5/7.

i have tons of jetpack mods so i just jetpack all the way to the top of those and then jump back down lmao.

i've only come close to death on this save when i was disoriented in a cave that turned out to be really really steep and i fell a ways, but i have so many health and shield mods that i only ended up losing shields and one of my 10 health pips

that said, falling off mountains on those stupid extremely hilly planets has ended two other permadeath saves, it's very much the easiest way to die. prolly shouldn't even bother with those places, even ignoring the falls they are just not fun to navigate around on.

Also Euclid and Eissentam have the most players, so people might want to go there instead of other lush and normal types if they want to run into players and previously discovered systems. Or to join one of the hubs where lots of players have bases.

Just before you warp to the next galaxy, do a black hole jump. Then jump to the next galaxy. This lands you near the galactic center in that galaxy as well. Drop a base computer, and continue onward. This effect ends when you quit the game. Equipment outside of the technology tab still gets broken every galaxy warp though.

Pre-patch, black freighters couldn't be recolored; post-patch they can be but the black is less black (presumably because the old black was more some weird "absence of color" black than actual black)

I intentionally grabbed a colored one originally so I could recolor it, but now it seems like colors aren't applying to the bridge/dock area....?
