Thanks, guys! I waited to post about it until I felt stable, grief-wise. She was a great bird and she received great care from her med team, and I got to be there for her and appreciate her and have the knowledge that she didn’t suffer. I love budgies and I love Starr!

I've noticed Sinbad spreading his wings a bit and panting. It worries me so I've taken him directly to the breeze of the air conditioner. How concerning is that, generally? Can I leave him to doing that? I keep thinking he's an African species, but it's unholy hot regardless.

My budgies do this on hot days too, and they're your classic "lives in arid climate in the middle of the desert" bird species. I tend to make sure they've got some breeze from a fan going past them but I don't place them directly in the path of my air conditioner because I'm worried they'll get too cold. They also enjoy a bath with some refrigerated water or an occasional spritz with a spray bottle.

It's been horribly hot as well here in SoCal, ritz got misted the other day when it was almost 90 degrees in the house. God forbid, someone mist his royal highness while concerned about heat. He wants nothing to do with it, but is perfectly fine cramming himself into his smallest water dish. birds, man.

Yeah, Mayo scopes out a dark, cool spot during the hottest parts of the day. She's like a cave bird.

My Sunny's favorite spot is on my knee under my desk. It's a problem if I'm wearing shorts because he decides to pluck my leg hairs one at a time. He's helping

Hello friends, my girlfriend has an umbrella cockatoo. What are some safe odor absorbing items that we can use in places like the bathroom? Her cage is in a separate room down a hallway from either bathroom. I've read that Citrus Magic is fine, are things like Clean Air Gel Beads ok? Do the scents matter or is it just the chemicals within? Only one bathroom has an overhead fan so we can't rely on just that.

I can't offer much help since I don't own birds but, I'd probably stay away from the gel beads unless an actual bird owner says otherwise.

We've had him about a year. My partner had been wanting a pet since she's been working from home alone all day, and our apartment doesn't allow dogs, so we got a budgie. He was only 3 months old and within a week he was hanging out on our shoulders and spending most of his time outside his cage. After getting him we noticed he had some breathing issues and then we discovered mold and had to get ride of a bed frame, 2 night stands, an entertainment center, some clothes and bags, and 3 chairs. Our landlord cleaned and painted the problem walls and we have damprid in every corner of the apartment and a dehumidifier now. His health has been good since...maybe he was the canary in our coal mine? Getting a friend soon since partner is going to have to work in person more

I think it's common for parrots to lick. Sinbad licks my hand a lot. Makes me think of a bit from Arrested Development.

They also have wild ringnecks in Rome. These birds are on the Palatine Hill (first one a nearby neighborhood actually). I saw at least a dozen. However, a bit of research tells me that here, and I think also in Amsterdam and Senlis, they are considered ecologically damaging as they are not native and in the case of Rome compete for nests with the native Roman woodpecker. The solution is obvious. They must all be captured and rehomed. In my house.

I think I saw a young crow the other day, I'm not sure are younger ones brown? We mostly get pigeons and the little brown birbs (sparrows?), With the occasional flock of Canadian geese, which I avoid in south Philly.

I love the bit at the end where the vibra-chick runs out of juice and the cockatiel gives a little brrrr to see if it'll make it go again King Parrots have been trying to bust into Sunny's cage when I've got her outside on the back deck. I'm amused by their curiosity and that they're trying to figure out how to get at her pellets, but Sunny is not impressed. The budgies don't seem to care at all https://youtube.com/shorts/MSc5XCw-PKI?feature=share

Met some wild cockatoos while out visiting the parkland magpies. Even though they didn't like the meatball I offered they kept asking again and again, and this one tried to get into the meatball tub https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIu8MzupkQ8

Are budgies not social preeners? My budgies all prefer to scratch their heads on branches, whereas my cockatiels would preen each other. (Male would preen female, put head down for reciprocation, and get ignored.) Such different birds.

Hey you've got a lot of friends... I am the absolute worst kind of mark, which is why I plan my route through the park according to how many meatballs I have left (and how many magpie territories I can thus pass through without disappointing a magpie and feeling like history's greatest monster).

I have a 10 year old male budgie who has paired with a 3 year old female, and he performs for her constantly. He's never preened a crest in his life, but every time she bows her head, he immediately begins preening her. She'll reciprocate when she's in the mood, but he'll often insist on continuing to preen her.

i hosed up so bad and I kinda want to die for it, but Beryl got caught in the laundry somehow and drowned and how could I let this happen. Jasper seems okay for now, she saw the body but oh my gods. There will be no self destruction on my part because Jasper needs me, but guhhhhhh. She deserves so much better than a modest grave and a small box with treats, but it was all I could do. going to go back to crying now I...I didn't want to admit this, but I had to. I am just the worst and should probably find someone to take jasper DrakIris fucked around with this message at 09:42 on Nov 9, 2022 |

that is loving horrific and a horrible failure of responsibility. please find a proper home, in time, for the other bird, so that you don't kill it while vacuuming or something. parrots or any birds really should never be without supervision when out of their cages inside a human home. that's how you end up with dead birds.
