"The entire history of this incarnation is one of temporal orbits, retcons, paradoxes, parallel time lines, reiterations, and divergences. How anyone can make head or tail of all this chaos, I don't know."
The Ninjago cartoon has wrapped production so I wouldn’t be surprised to see an end to the line completely soon.

I can't really imagine Lego without Ninjago, yet would gladly sacrifice it for something more classically mythological. I doubt they'd do that though.

I was watching a GBC video, and one of the modules had a rather large solid wheel piece. This lead me to wonder if any of the hyper-specific pieces in Jack Stone, Znap or the other non-standard lines would have any integral use in a GBC module. If you gave me one of the lumpy base plates, I feel I could work with it.

See the wheel here at 38:22

Maybe. Most of those specialised Jack Stone parts are things like panels, vehicle chassis and canopies. It'd be easy enough to use them for framing or decorating, but I can't think of any examples off the the top of my head where they could be used as an integral part for a GBC mechanism.

By the way, that wheel is a Fabuland part, no shortage of super-specialised parts in that theme either.

So I had a lapse of judgment on Sunday and got 11022 cause it was on sale at Costco...

It's a HUGE set of parts, almost overwhelming to me. No tans, no browns, no reds, no traditional blues. I think it's gonna keep me busy for a minute.

I managed to get the dragon turtle into Studio tonight, so here's a render too:

The reason its so limited is because these are just the same sets sold at the LEGO House, no changes to the box. There are things legally required to be on the box in some countries that aren't on there, so they can't be sold there.
I think this is a limited release online, so it won't be around long. Which is why the boxes haven't been localised.

OK I have seen a couple reviews of the new Hulkbuster set and my opinion is this: I would like to revisit 76105 and bump my personal score of it from like a C to maybe a B or B+ now, because it's way loving better than this $550 turd, even with its flaws. I am rarely so negative about a LEGO set but, uh, all the reviewers so far are, too.

edit: I say that but I've actually been very negative this year huh? dang 2022 is a bummer

I’m complete fine with Lego putting out expensive sets that don’t interest me. Better than the alternative: expensive sets that DO interest me. I still want to buy the UCS Falcon someday, I don’t need new ones I want too!!

I have three regrets
The first is to be born in Joseon.
For a $500 iron man set a mega-detailed original suit of armor would be the first thing my mind would go to. What’s the obsession with the hulk buster anyway? It appeared for like 6 minutes total.
(Also the original design also just kind of blows)

I know you weren't asking me, but this set is the big stinker of the year. It makes the Black Panther bust seem reasonable. It sacrifices the entire point of a massive UCS style set for 'put the Iron-Man buildable figure inside' play feature that doesn't even come with the $550 set. It's proportions are massively off, it looks like it's wearing a diaper, it only has one printed part, the exclusive minifig is only an exclusive torso with no arm or leg printing, it's still using red light bricks, the price per piece is awful, and last, but certainly not least, there was already a big Hulkbuster set that didn't sell well at it's $120 MSRP back in 2019.

The $120 one just flat out looks better imo. The proportions are better and it's done at a scale that can hold a lot of detail, and those details pop. It also makes for a better display piece with the platform and robot arms and the size is much less unwieldy.

The new one has some nice details, but they sort of just get washed away in the size. The proportions look flat out kind of bad with the oversized chest and tiny shoulder joints and ankles.

The new one just really begs the question. Why? I cant imagine anyone was looking at their $120 UCS hulkbuster and thinking. "I wish this was too big." Gigantic sets should have a reason for being gigantic and to me at least this one is baffling. Of course there could be some people who love iron man that think I'm totally wrong and that's fine too.

All this, but there's more, too. It's very gappy in places, but the worst is the sides under the arms, where there are just some cavernous voids. Articulated pieces like the shoulder pads and knee pads look odd either up or down, so their being movable for posing leads to even more unsightly gaps. Small parts and chunks are fragile and break off easily, though the overall structure is quite stable. The significant proportion issues, especially around the chest, are there because the torso has to accommodate the $40 poseable figure fitting inside. Speaking of, said figure is just not great looking on its own (was pretty high on Marvel fans' lists for worst sets of 2021), so having to procure that kinda ugly 8+ action figure thing to even "complete" this $550 set is ridiculous. Articulation is nice in the arms, but only in the arms. There is no articulation in the legs and even the hands have issues - it's very difficult to have the hand pointing up with the palm out for the arc blast sort of pose, which you'd think would be encouraged due to the extra light bricks in the hands, but it can't even do that well.

I bet we're still forgetting stuff. It really is something.

Even if you're a huge Marvel fan, and even if you're a huge Iron Man fan, and EVEN IF what you really want is a big ol' UCS Hulkbuster and you're willing to pay for it, then my recommendation would be to go track down the 2018 one (which I have to assume will probably increase in price soon as people realize "hey, this was already done before, and way better" when they consider the new one). It even has a better minifig, not that that was a particularly high bar to clear.

edit: never gonna stop complaining about absurdly expensive, premium, adult & collector-oriented sets with big sticker sheets, too.

The craziest thing about Lego price increases is that it's so all over the place. It doesn't even makes sense within themes. It's like they spun a wheel and landed on some sets to make comically overpriced, while others are still perfectly reasonable.

I think one of the last buildable figures for SW was $40 but it was a 2nd stab at Vader and it was pretty badass. All mine are in a bin somewhere.

The marvel ones look like they have some more bricks and less technic construction but yeah that’s ridic when you can get speed champions sets for half that.

2022 gave us a new galaxy explorer and while it's not the best spaceship in the history of spaceships it is very good and that alone gives 2022 a thumbs up.

The castle is epic too, but I'll never buy it.

Oh and the delorean. Now that's an amazing set.. but I am hugely biased towards the larger creator expert builds. They always look fantastic.

Imo the 2022 champions are the Galaxy Explorer and Horizon Zero Dawn Tallneck. The GE is a great size and part count for the price, with like 20ish printed parts and zero stickers, plus it's just a really neat remake of the original set. Tallneck is a great build and really unique display piece with tons of great parts, and one of the most effort minifigs Lego has made. Even the raised price feels fair, but the original price was a great deal. I have, and really like the Delorean, but I'm really happy I caught it when it was still $169. $200 is ridiculous. It's not even half the size/weight of the $250 Batmobile. Still a great set though and one of my favorites.

Nothing else from 2022 has really grabbed me. I thought I'd care more about optimus prime but I just don't. I picked up Dagobah as well but sort of regret it. It's not bad but meh. All in all this is panning out to be my cheapest year for Lego in a while at least. Spent about $375 total and probably won't buy another set until the Tie Bomber comes out next year.

The landspeeder is gonna be the first original trilogy (Edit: UCS) set I'm doing a hard pass on since I got back into Lego. It's a nice looking set, but at $200 it was already a hard sell. I'm fine with just the little one. Then they bumped it to $240 and absolutely hell no.

One thing that really didn't help sell Optimus, is that my local Lego store has it displayed in a case with the Galaxy Explorer and the GE is twice as big. Lego put the price tags right next to each other and I just sort of did a double take that OP was almost twice as expensive as the GE while looking tiny next to it.
