I've had this image in my head of a Locked Tomb manga that has an art style that's a mix Tatsuki Fujimoto (chainsaw man) and Ai Yazawa (Nana). A good mix of styles that can be weird and violent but also have a strong sense of introspection and character. Or something like that. Chainsaw Man vibes are a definite Must, though.

Meanwhile, looking at people's art of the Locked Tomb makes me think about how insanely difficult it would be to cast the movie version of this series, given all the people who would have to play two or more roles. Off the top of my head:

[LIST][*]Would you want a single actress to play Coronabeth and Ianthe, or not?
[*]Harrowhark's actress has to be able to do Harrowhark, Gideon-in-Harrowhark, and Nona.
[*]Would you want a single actress to play Dulcinea and Cytherea? Maybe not?
[*]Camilla's actress has to be able to do Camilla, Palamedes, and Paul.
[*]Naberius' actor, which ought to be a small part, has to be able to do Naberius, Ianthe-in-Naberius, and Palamedes-in-Naberius.
[*]The same actor has to be able to play the Saint of Duty and Pyrrha.

Actors love that poo poo, and competent ones can do it fine. If you think about it it's just what they do going from show to show they're just changing character in a single show instead.

I think you'll want to cast a lot of indigenous actors. There's plenty of great indigenous talent but they do seem to struggle making it to mainstream. Over in the states we have basically two or three total shows with majority indigenous casts and even then they have to play it loose with tribal/nation origins and they have a lot of overlap.

In animation at least some of the voice cast would absolutely end up whitewashed too.

Hugely in favor of anything involving Cara Gee (who would barely have to try at all to look like a necromancer).

FYI, Bobby Draper was played by a Maori, I am just saying

Got it in one. Sadly I suspect Tom is booked for the next decade with projects even with K6BD looking like it will conclude in 2023. Man does a huge amount of art for side projects though so who knows. Maybe hire him as art lead with a team?

I think you'd need something a touch more realistic than Abaddon's style to really visually capture Harrowhark's elaborate attention to anatomy. Chainsaw Man sounds about right.

That's why I always think of Fujimoto--he does body horror very well and he's incredibly detailed when it comes to viscera and other inside parts. An artstyle like that, but with a more obvious feminine touch, something like Ai Yazawa who a) is real good with subtle facial expressions and introspective story telling; and b) would add a touch of ~fashion~ Both artists are really great, character-driven storytellers and a mix both styles would compliment different aspects of the story--the action and the drama. I feel like this story would make a fascinating manga, but I definitely agree with the K6BD comparisons if it ended up being a western project (which it most likely would)

I'm not actually an artist, so I don't know if this makes any sense but I was re-reading chainsaw man recently while my brain was still full of Nona which got the wheels in my brain spinning. I often like to imagine my favorite non-weeb properties as manga for fun :nyoron:

The arrests were announced in September 2020. There had been a 2-year investigation before that, which had also been announced publicly.

So there probably was some public knowledge.

My partner is pretty peculiar about books and loves abusing them by folding them in half (ungh) and also the other 2 parts are paperback as well so. I'm in EU, dunno if that makes a difference. Haven't found anything on the internet and don't know where to look.

Probably expect about a year out from the hardcover release. Publication dates on Amazon put GtN hardcover to paperback at about 10 months, and HtN about 13 months.

I was not at all confident that HtN was going to actually work out until about 1/2 - 3/4 of the way through. It does stick the landing, but it's such a weird journey getting there, and it's a very different book than the first one. My theory in the early chapters was that the second-person narrator would turn out to be The Ressurrection Beast. I liked the way it did end up paying off though.

I think when Palamedes says they "left for a Lyctor" he maybe actually means Nona. Like, Cassiopeia left instructions with the Sixth saying "if Blood of Eden ever gets their own Lyctor, defect to them." I could be wrong though.

Alecto got forced into a human-ish body that can break to go through shackles (also, reread the description of what happens to Nona‘s hand going through Ianthe’s blood ward or when she has a tantrum), but it’s also still Harrow’s body.

HtN spoiler Not all RBs are hideous Cronenberg monstrosities. Per Mercymorn, "Each Beast is different. I have fought numerous now, and each Beast is quite unlike any other … [...] I remember Number Four … it was a humanoid creature with a beautiful face who held me under the water, and it spoke in a lovely voice but it only repeated, die, die—"

Nona spoiler As for the identity/importance of the Angel, we already know there's at least something to do with the internet (Angel is "Aim" and her predecessor was "Emma Sen" :haw:), which does not seem to exist in the Nine Houses. She carries some sort of message; makes me wonder if that message/set of messages is something passed down from the ultra rich evacuees who escaped John's genocidal wrath.

Anyways, I'm already due for a series re-read to theorycraft more sensibly.
