I love this series because you can torment other people who have read it by making jokes in front of people currently reading it. I like but but there's a continuity problem with my own cherished ideal of Gideon the Ninth where everybody but Teacher is a Muppet. Except now that I've thought about it, I want Gideon where Statler and Waldorf are collectively Teacher. Hell with it, everyone but Crux is a Muppet. Crux hates Muppets. Also, there's this wildly overused gag where any time someone talks about bones, Gideon waves her arm in a way that clearly reveals it has huge biceps and no bones.

What you do is you have her flex under a long sleeve repeatedly and it looks like a normal flex and then eventually you give her shorts sleeves, perhaps in combat, and she flexes and her wiggly little muppet arm is just making a "U" shape

Gideon is dark because her dad is Maori from a kerjillion years ago so there hasn't been as much phenotypal variation over the generations. Harrow is sickly pale and presumably mixed race over thousands of years.

I did a gideon->harrow->nona re-read when nona came out so I'm finally back and reading the thread, Harrow made *so much more sense* as a re-read just after reading Gideon, and the tonal shifts between the 3 books were easier to deal with. It was useful being able to discern who the initialed characters were in Jod's flashback chapters (A---- for Augustine, M---- for Mercymorn, G---- for Saint of Duty etc) NtN / hot sauce spoilers Sitting Here posted:Sidenote to that—I was a little bummed out that we didn't see the gang convene at Hot Sauce's hideout, which was kind of set up to be a set piece later in the story. Like Nona says, Gideon is just incredibly, unbelievably sad.
