But Tarzan... The strangest thing has happened! I'm as bare... as the day I was born!
I think every 1980s and 90s Space line was absolutely impeccable, even the ones before or after my time. But I was the kid who wanted big trans parts in any color. Blue, red, yellow, neon green, I loved ALL of it, and made sure to wear the canopy piece over my eyes like a space age visor every time I got a new set.

E: Trans orange was probably the best though.

I'm not a fan of Blacktron but I don't think they look bad. With that in mind, I wonder, does anyone who is not nostalgic for ice planet think those sets even look okay, let alone good? Individual taste and all, but I think those may be the most hideous sets LEGO has ever made. They just look garish, to me. Not faulting anyone who grew up with them and still love them, that's normal. But for instance, if you grew up with Classic Space, what do you think? Or if they were before your time and you grew up with Star Wars, I guess, what do you think?

Ice Planet was glorious. To my literal baby brain nothing was cooler than those trans-orange snowshoes and chainsaws. I would have ranked it above Blacktron II and Space Police which were the other space lines that captivated me.

Sorry, you asked for people not nostalgic for them- but I feel uncharitable towards Classic Space and its yellow canopies, as they were long before my time (Blacktron I doesn't bug me though, black pairs better with trans-yellow than the blue and grey imo, but otherwise I am neutral). I was kicking myself for a while for not buying an underpriced lot that included the 3 main Blacktron I vehicles, but the fact that I've never subsequently sought them out means they must not have mattered much to me after all. I don't think this GWP makes me more likely to buy the modular, though.

From a logistical standpoint, the bright trans-orange pieces make sense because you would want the vehicles to be visible from a distance in the snow/ice :spergin:

Spyrius was tight for the dark blue canopies, repeated with Aquanauts. Come to think of it, I'm just a sucker for the transparent colored pieces overall. Whatever you are building, they just jazz everything up.

Never had any mini dolls before, so this is neat. I'll try to get it built soon, but I've got a Gundam that I need to finish hogging my build space, so need to knock that out first.
Apparently this is the first set to have all the main cast of the Friends line in one set. Weird.

Post some pics and whatnot when you build it! Friends has become one of my favorite lego themes over the past few years (starting with the National Geographic wildlife sets), and I'd love to see more of that set. Might try to get one.

They totally came up with the trans orange pieces first and then had to come up with a theme to put them in. All of the cool pieces in those sets were orange.

My 4 year old loves the Castle, tons of adventures with all the Knights. Daughter likes taking all the ladies and princesses and putting them in the rooms.

The problem with Blacktron is all the black. The yellow+black scheme looks awesome in strong light but if it's dim at all it's just a big shadowy blob.

The modular play features were loving awesome though. Snapping different sets together was little kid joy.

Blacktron 1 had some fun designs but if we're being real I think the line owes its reputation to the opaque visors. Not even dark transparent, just straight black. Why don't these weirdos need to see? Who knows, they look sinister as hell, and that was cool.

Blacktron 2 had fun designs too but the minifigs weren't a patch on 1, even with the jetpacks.

This made me realise that the pizzeria being set back from the street a bit works really well with the art gallery part of the boutique hotel. Might also work well with the sign on the green side of the police station if one of the sets was reversed.

Decided to go ahead and try modify the Peacekeeper into a Classic Space version. I tried to keep the overall size similar to the original, as well as keeping the same main play feature of the removable prison section - in this case turned into a boster/droid transport pod.

It's based mostly on the Xenon X-Craft, with the side panels being the same as the ones on Cosmic Voyager

That is a massive nostalgia hit for me. I went to the funfair with an uncle, and won a suction cup dart gun and a plastic knife in some game. My mum threw them out, thinking they were too violent, and I was inconsolable. My dad ended up buying this for me to make up for it, and it was my first Lego space ship.

All right guys, I'm working on something for the new Bricklink Design Program.

It became really quickly apparent that I wasn't gonna be able to adapt one of my older builds without a ton of compromises, because this program has a lot of really strict rules and restrictions that I don't usually worry about. I decided to make something from scratch. I sincerely hope it's the sort of thing people would want to own for themselves. This is still a draft and I'm still tweaking things, but here's where it's at.

Apollo Roadside Motel

It consists of 2 motel rooms, an office, and a parking lot with a red truck. The motel rooms and truck have removable roofs, and all of the rooms have open backs.

4 minifigs visit and/or work in the space. I wanted this thing to be absolutely dripping with character, so it's a very dense build full of detail and easter eggs.

And, because it's me, I made a vehicle. It's sort of a fictional mashup of various 50s pickups.

A big concern with building a motel is monotony. I didn't ever want the build experience to get old or repetitive. The rooms, as a result, are extremely different - layouts, carpets, and all of the furniture are different between the two. In fact, this thing is absolutely jam packed full of mini builds, plus some really big and detailed submodels like the truck and sign.

So, honest feedback since I want to make this thing as good as it can possibly be: what do you think?

Had fun with this, liked it more than the Ninjago one last year, this feels more cohesive, I guess?
Really like the mini dolls now that I've had some experience with them. The set has six of them, the girls are getting sloshed for Christmas!

It opens up, showing art of some Friends sets released over the years, and it has some micro scale builds representing them too. Thankfully the building instructions call them out and say what sets they are, since I don't know much about Friends!

There's a lightbrick hidden behind the table on the upper level, lighting up the fireplace.
The levels are connected together like the different floors of modular buildings, so they come apart easily.

But wait, I said there were six mini dolls!

There's a Secret Santa hidden in the present at the top!

Anyway, this has given me a taste for Friends stuff. Since the line is getting a reboot in the new year, I might pick some up!

It's all great, but I'm always extra impressed by your furniture/items builds. That coke machine is absolutely perfect. Crazy how instantly recognizable it is at that scale and level of detail. Its the same as all your car builds, you are really good at implying detail, or I guess knowing which details are iconic/recognizable.
