Tough to say. Parts of the Jpop industry make Kpop look progressive, but at the same time parts of it are way better for the average idol. The US music industry does a lot of similar scummy deals with record advances being predatory loans that keep smaller artists in extended debt and stuff too. It all comes down to the typical criticism of capitalism and that applies to every entertainment industry (and sports, etc). There’s also the cultural aspect of Asian countries where dedication to a company and job is expected to supersede almost everything else in life which amplifies the control and abuse aspects of the industry.
