You can find it online pretty easily, it's basically a terrible character dressing as a drow for a D&D game and includes the other characters pointing out that it is racist.

Unfortunately it’s one of the best episodes of Community. I don’t recall there being some outcry to remove it, maybe I’m wrong. There’s a later episode that’s still up where a character is in actual brownface, instead of “darkblueface”.

It must have been in development for a while or an old rear end script or something, I remember seeing it in the theater (1995?) and it's supposed to take place at the eve of the millennium and I was like, there's no way this is what the world is like 4 years from now. Pretty good overall though. Some intense and disturbing stuff

There was no particular outcry against Chang painting himself blue/black as a Drow (I would imagine also because the punchline to the joke was "you shouldn't do something that could be construed as blackface, because people will find it offensive"), but in the summer of 2020, Netflix and other services rushed to remove any instances of blackface (30 Rock and Scrubs both had multiple episodes pulled from streaming, and those jokes were far less clever).

For some reason in the early 2000s white comedians thought it was super funny to do blackface jokes. It happened a surprising amount. Then in the middle of the BLM movement as well as related things like a long overdue conversation about confederate flags and monuments and a bunch of notable politicians being revealed to have also previously worn blackface as a hilarious joke we as a society said “uh, maybe blackface isn’t funny?” Now the proper response to this would have probably been a serious conversation with people like Tina Fey Michael Schur, and Dan Harmon about WHY this happened and why it took a national outrage at racism and murders of black people to reconsider the possible weight of these jokes. Like there’s a joke in Community where Britta says something like “I can excuse racism but I can’t excuse X” and she’s called out on that. And that’s obviously an awareness of the issue but then like… there it is. But I’m sure these powerful white creators didn’t want to have to deal with this stuff and distributors just dealt with it as easily as they could by removing blackface scenes/episodes. And that isn’t the best response but then again maybe it closed the book on “blackface is funny” and the only real victim is the nerd who has to do a quick internet search for their favorite episode.

Context is pretty important, but that would require someone make a decision that they could be held responsible for, so it's much easier to just issue a blanket ban.

30 Rock was explicitly mocking the fact that NBC used to air Amos and Andy, it wasn't just "blackface funny" though I can understand them getting rid of that.

All the jokes were some form of “blackface is bad, uh oh” but like doing the bad thing for a laugh and lampshading it is pretty much in the “ironic racism” realm imo. So why a lot of white writers decided it was cool to do and worth the laugh is the tough conversation everyone wanted to avoid. And I mean considering the mess Harmon’s current show is in or his other issues and Feys other questionable humor it’s probably not even that isolated a problem in a macro sense in terms of privileged writers not considering the weight of their edgey jokes.

The episode of Community they chose to remove was odd because in season 4 there is an episode where Pierce paints his hands as racist puppets. I'm not sure how they decided Chang pretending to be an elf was worse than the old racist character being racist.

I still want to hear from a pro-censorship person: should we delete Trading Places? This seems like it would be a slam dunk to me. Landis is beyond a doubt a racist - a few years prior he wrote and directed Kentucky Fried Movie which has a scene where a white character shouts a very offensive racial slur at a group of African Americans - and Trading Places not only features blackface played totally for laughs, with no condemnation, but also that aforementioned slur. If this is the stuff dividing us, shouldn't it be removed for everyone's safety?

Someone got mad at a blackface joke specifically so all blackface had to be erased. Always Sunny drops N bombs and those are still there. It was just blackface or anything that could in bad faith be considered blackface.

https://twitter.com/DiscussingFilm/status/1618693187522146307 And they are dancing, the board floor slamming under the jackboots and the fiddlers grinning hideously over their canted pieces. Towering over them all is Homer and he is naked dancing, his small feet lively and quick and now in doubletime and bowing to the ladies, huge and pale and hairless, like an enormous infant. He never sleeps, he says. He says he’ll never die. He bows to the fiddlers and sashays backwards and throws back his head and laughs deep in his throat and he is a great favorite, Homer. He wafts his hat and the lunar dome of his skull passes palely under the lamps and he swings about and takes possession of one of the fiddles and he pirouettes and makes a pass, two passes, dancing and fiddling at once. His feet are light and nimble. He never sleeps. He says that he will never die. He dances in light and in shadow and he is a great favorite. He never sleeps, Homer. He is dancing, dancing. He says that he will never die.

I enjoy putting on the simpsons on Hulu since it's just whatever the newest seasons are and it's usually entertaining or interesting just in the way rubbernecking at a car crash is. Get high and just gawk, even better when subjecting a friend or SO to it. Oh wow Patty and Selma ASMR? Homer Simpson said NFT?? Bart took a selfie?! Marge's voice!?! Marge's voice?!?!?!? I'm dying with laughter!!!!!!! Its weird because I'm sure the writers aren't all 70 years old but it feels like they are. The sad thing is Hulu is littered with the corpses of all of Fox's other "new" shots at "adult animation" from the last 15 years and as bad as the zombie simpsons is and has been forever, most of those shows are actually worse.

I watched season 1 of Truth Be Told on Apple + this week based on a recommendation from a friend. It stars Octavia Spencer and Aaron Paul about a true crime podcaster whose journalism gets a 16 year old boy tried as an adult for murder. 20 years later, he's still in prison, and she realizes she got it all wrong, and starts a new podcast to try and get him set free. It's fine. I might continue with it, but there's nothing groundbreaking about it, and it never really becomes genuinely good TV. I feel like I could have watched this same show on Lifetime to be honest when it had a moment 8 years ago trying to do peak TV. It kind of goes with my whole impression that while Apple+ is throwing a ton of money to get big name stars for their shows, very few of their shows are actually any good. Inspector Hound posted:Disney Plus removed an episode of Bluey because the dad says they let him keep his balls when he got neutered. Nah they changed a joke in one scene in a way that actually kind of becomes a better "screw the audience" type joke. The original version has a character telling the dad "yeah, it was in and out, and I even got to keep em" with the implication that he was talking about getting neutered, then later the dad's saying his wife wants to keep her options open "but do we really want more of these things running around" before his kid runs into him. In the Disney version when it cuts back he's talking about getting teeth pulled. There was an episode that wasn't released in America at first because it's entirely about farting, and that was dumb but I guess at least they eventually decided it was okay to put that one up too.
