If you don't rush ahead constantly you're playing a fundamentally different game, and your version of it is much, much more difficult than the game you would be playing if you rushed ahead constantly.

deep dish peat moss
Jul 27, 2006

Rushing ahead means:
1) Shooters never shoot at your team
2) Fewer specialists and elites spawn, because they don't have time to spawn, and
3) You can straight up skip like half the enemies in the game if you want because they can't follow you through security doors/elevators

It also makes it way easier to hoover up all the crafting mats

This is not necessarily true, they follow you by teleporting to spawn points depending on the map. This is obvious on levels like the chasm train assassination mission, where if you rush to the elevator to get to the boss everything will follow you and climb over the fence at the base of the elevator which includes elite shooters and regular enemies. Or like if you go to the security door at the start of the level during a horde, the enemies will simply follow you and drop down from above.

That's interesting, I know it has for sure worked with dogs and poxbursters in the past, but I kind of get the feeling that all those specialists who run away can despawn for various reasons.

All the specials stick around until you kill them and will follow you across the level. If you play vet you can see them teleporting all over. Nothing despawns. That being said, the normal enemies CAN be outpaced. There are just some instances where you can get screwed if they do follow behind.

I like to see my stats because I like to imagine what I'm doing in the context of a larger war effort like DT and Vermintide are more or less depicting with their setting. I found the series very late but I didn't realize that the stats screen was incentivizing jackass behavior, so that's lame.

Monster Hunter World had a neat little accolade system that gave everyone a title at the end of a mission, like "most healing done", "most damage to monster", "knockout king" and whatnot. Maybe they could split the difference with that?

On the one side, you have the person rushing ahead shoving past the hordes and going down two rooms ahead of everyone else to either a dog spawn or the ambient elites they haven't dealt with.

On the other side, you have the person who considers every poxwalker a personal boss battle as they take half a minute to kill each individual and firmly plants their feet on the ground and will not budge until every poxwalker directly in front of them is dealt with, even during a endless horde that wants them to move to new objectives.

Pick your teammate.

I do hope they change grimoires. Right now I avoid them, or even playing missions with them, because they drain everyone's max health to nothing for a few extra space dollars at the end of a mission that I don't need because the shop stock won't change for another hour, or for piddling advancement on a quest I won't finish for Melk bux I need multiple weeks of constant playing for to earn enough to get a weapon. I just don't feel any incentive to engage with the mechanic at all.

Related, I wish there was more of a reward for fighting a mid-boss. Maybe not the Demonhosts since youre supposed to avoid them, but it just feels poo poo when the game spawns 3 nurglebeats in a row and you don't get poo poo for it.

I want to be able to see what everyone else is carrying, and I want loadouts so I can quickly adjust myself to my teammate situation. Loading into a game as a Vet and seeing 3 Ogryn teammates, realizing it and having the time to switch from a Helbore Lasgun build to a Revolver build feels great.

Realizing that you forgot to change the level 30 feat while you were swapping and being stuck with the revolver and no automatic reload, less great.

Yes. It wasn't bothering me with most characters but with the Ogryn it was, especially since they pull a shield out of nowhere sometimes.

Agreed. Also make the +exp convert to extra currency or something once you hit 30. If there were actually end of game chests like in Vermintide make it give you a chance to roll a higher chest.

One thing that carried over extremely well from Legend/Cata players into DT is that not keeping a decent clip throughout the level is a death sentence, and sometimes it's worth it to trade some resources (sometimes health, sometimes something like grenades, ammo and health consumables, etc) to push through what would otherwise be a scenario where you're locked down for too long.

Broadly when it comes to Zealots that rush forward--if they're doing it for the right reasons and not for impatience or bad play--it's them leveraging their class' ability to create space for the rest of the team to push forward. If they're bad, there isn't a good place to push forward to--and similarly often enough the team might just not be on the same page, and not realize it's an opportunity to move.

Unrelated to that, Polygon put out a video that breaks down some of the gore effects an animations, and has a very good interview with the lead combat designer that really shows that a lot of people at the company really know what they're doing and have great vision, and I am desperate to find out how it goes from those ideas to the implementation we see.

Definitely. Would it be technically better if it exploded right away on impacting an enemy? Yeah, sure, but it's not nearly as hilarious or fun as watching your target fall flat on their rear end while the grenade rolls next to their head before exploding like a Looney Toons gag.

Edit: to be fair I think it does have a niche in hitting specials in that awkward midrange where the stubber struggles to stay on target.

Another good example is on the factory map where you take the long gondola elevator down after waiting for it as part of the mid-mission event. If a mutant spawns and you go in the elevator before it gets to you, you can hear it yelling and folllowing you all the way down. It will come from the room with the blight.

Poxbursters can be avoided because they can't climb so they explode if they run into an area where they cannot enter a door or drop down to a new area. Dogs will 100% chase you on most levels. I told my team once we should wait for the dog at the security door before the elevator mid event room on the hourglass level but my teammate activated it. The next room was full of scab shooters who began ripping us up (damnation hi intensity) and of course the dog got into the room at the worst possible time and caused one of the only human teammates to get downed.

I'm a little disappointed and surprised that the community feels like it's crystalized around Malice. It's not a big deal on weekends but during troughs you really feel it.

Malice to me feels easier than VT2's Champion difficulty, which is where that community sort of settled. Granted, there was like a year long period of 'speed run Veteran' and maybe that's where we are now. Malice is incredibly easy by level 30, it's basically a free victory outside of the odd really terrible group that can't handle a High Intensity or whatever.
