My guess here is that Marvel didn't adjust their workflow for The Volume and had a rough time having poo poo ready for the filming. None of this 'we'll do a placeholder landscape and then VFX can crunch for 42 days and get it good". So the in-camera poo poo ends up looking worse. Slotducks posted:is cgi regressing? Like Cameron probably had very distinct ideas on where and how to use the T-1000 CGI based on what ILM (or whomeverthefuck) told him was feasible. And there was still a nod towards practicals for a lot of things like the bullet craters during fights and poo poo.
