Idk I think it kind of ties into this thing we're seeing more and more where the only comfortable life anyone can imagine for themselves is having a media career. Getting paid to have opinions. And seeing so many people trying to achieve that, to be the next Chapo or Cum Town or Guys We hosed or whatever - seeing that the only dream we have for ourselves anymore is to sit around bullshitting is kind of disgusting. And I'm not blaming them, if someone offered me my current salary to record 2 hours of content a week I'd take it, let alone the amount of money some people make doing it. But it does inspire a lil bit of disgust in me, that Podcasting/Streaming/Influencing is the top of the mountain we've built as a species.

dominion’s lawsuit against them, especially in light of these texts, seems pretty airtight. i don’t think they’re gonna go out of business or anything but it looks like they’re gonna lose a bunch of money whether they settle or not, and it’s all p amusing

anyway that's all I get from when Matt says stuff like that. he's just trying to make it clear that he doesn't think he's like John Brown or Lenin, but has accepted that what he's doing is making an entertainment product. I think basically he feels a little guilty that he can make a good living doing that while things suck for so many people, and just doesn't wanna feel like he's stealing "revolutionary" valor or whatever.

Yeah, the fundamental problem with stuff like this is that it requires a certain (unknown) threshold of people taking action to make a difference, and if that threshold isn't met you're just throwing away your life for nothing. So most sane people aren't willing to put themselves in that position unless they already have nothing to lose.

You only live once, and it's hard to rationalize "dying or ending up in prison" when it's unlikely to even accomplish anything unless you can somehow get a bunch of people to take that risk with you. And it's virtually impossible to get a large enough people involved due to the sheer size/scope of society and influence of modern media (to the extent where I think it's questionable whether it's even possible in the modern era).

I dunno about this, I have over a decade of addict experience and it never made me act this crazy. If anything I just became more silent and withdrawn when things were at their worst.

Though from my subjective experience, it seems like addicts can go one of two ways - they either become hyper-aware of their own behavior/psychology, or they just completely lose their minds and spiral into endless self-delusion. So this might be a case of the latter.

tbf Matt has talked about doing local community work and organizing but that he doesn’t want to give details bc he views it as basically bragging I think. it’s somewhere in all the metaphysics he’s been doing for the last year though so it’s easy to have missed. honestly I appreciate that he’s upfront about the contradiction, vastly preferable to when media figures imply or outright state that they’re fighting the good fight and meaningfully pushing society towards socialism or communism by posting/podding

Conditions intolerable but insufficiently intolerable for revolution and will likely remain that way in our lifetimes tbh.

It's a shame because all the guys who do have the chutzpah to do big things are on the other side doing violent reactionary stuff, because it couples really well with their seemingly chronic main character syndrome

that's right

you also see the same thing from over-educated liberals in brooklyn or dc or whatever. instead of manifestation their guilt into the self, they instead turn to rabid AIDS tumblr-praxis tut-tutting to "make a difference" and screaming on the internet about someone consuming the Wrong(TM) thing.

The tall grass gets cut, everyone on the left in the West in the modern day that could push for revolutionary change either ends up shooting themsleves in the back of the head twice, or selling out the insant they get a fraction of comfort. We talk about the Ameircan people are too comfortable for change but thats not true. The dipshit Liberals insisting train derailments are nothingburgers are too comfortable, the ski-doo dealership Chuds are too comfortable, the pedophile billionaire class are too comfortable. Everyone else is loving scrambling to survive, desperately trying to keep their heads above water that anything that seems like an abstraction can be put on the bacl.burner while they plan out how to pay rent, grocery shop. On top of that most people have never seen anything change for the better , they see people talk like problems have been fixed but see those same problems persist. Even now Bernie who talked different, lead everyone to think maybe things would be different, now just fawns over the obviously dementia rattled rapist in the White House, why bother believing again when they'll just sell you out so some dipshit lanyard kid whos only known a life of comfort can get a job
