Well, with Ireland it's not just expats since English is the main language of the country, and the internet does tend to have an english bias in general.

Tree Goat posted:How it works is that the methodologies of all of those maps are often a) English language search terms (so it’s a map of expats) b) split tens of thousands of ways (so the “winner” might be, like 100 searches instead of 50, and is certainly not stable across time periods) and c) with methodology that is either not described in detail or is not appropriate to the question at hand right im sure there's a vibrant online presence for irish language porn that isn't being captured here

Actually, when using an English language website, with English language content, I tend to search in English, since the results I'm looking for are in fact in English. This is despite me being Danish. I haven't actually tried searching for "elleve tær" or whatever specific kink I have on PornHub, but I'm pretty sure I'd get more results by writing "Eleven toes". Not saying the statistics aren't bullshit, but presumably they represent multiple searches from multiple persons, otherwise they'd be way more specific.

yes i am aware that people in ireland speak english and people often use english terms on english websites. my point is that the immediate thing you want to do when you see maps like that (or the "what is each country's least favorite movie?" "what is each state's favorite halloween candy?" equivalents) is go "huh, how come location X has result Y, is it because Z?" and the methodologies of such maps, especially those powered by search results or analytics, do not strongly support causal reasoning of that form
