Pre-1930s Japan had far more links to the UK. Japan saw themselves as a similar island nation destined to rule a naval empire of their lessers. And with shared goals of subjugating China/isolating Russia.

Seems like NZ would have to be on on another face from Australia but I can't figure out where. It does seem to be missing from the map, in any case.
