Personally, I dislike it when people put their own gimmicks above the shows they are supposedly trying to get people interested in. Haven't read the thread or watched the show though.

If it's just a straight romance anime, y'know, without some insane gimmick like your girlfriend is a vampire or your ex is your step sister or something really stupid, the character writing kinda needs to just be outstanding at this point for me to be on board. Like I watched Angel next door last season and it wasn't bad, it's just, I've seen so many iterations of "Let's go to the festival, let's go the maid cafe" or whatever that what I look for in romance is for the romance to be solved within 3-6 episodes and then remainder to examine what these people are like as a couple going forward.

I think calling Skip and Loafer a romance is a bit inaccurate. I mean there is a romance angle but I think it's mostly a drama/comedy about the main character trying to settle in at university and make friends. The side characters are as important as the love interest. I'd compare it to something like Honey and Clover.

The manga cover art for skip and loafer drew my eye immediately that even if the synopsis sounded generic, I was gonna give it a shot regardless The opposite happens for isekai series, where the key art often makes me roll my eyes into the back of my head as I think "oh no not this bullshit again" and then I have to read the summary to see if it clears the bar for being interesting

the ones from the publishers can be good at getting the appeal across sometimes. on MAL they have 15 year olds rewrite all of them to be 3x as long and not say anything so those are useless

Anyway the show isn't high concept or anything, but I'm watching it because it has a good staff, my friends have been gushing about the manga for years, and I watched the first episode and liked it.

i have 0 opinions or interest in the show. i do appreciate the first thread attempting to do something creative and funny even if it missed the mark substantially (sorry dude i gave up reading that after a few seconds and i don't understand how the bit relates to the show at all)
