So I'm hearing imgur may soon start deleting images which were not uploaded by someone with an account. Because I'm a normal person and not a space alien, I've never considered making an imgur account and never will. Is my Cataclysm LP doomed? Should I submit it to the LP archive as-is for the sake of preservation? The SSLP portion is completed, I doubt I'll be going back to it. I guess the SSLP story doesn't really "end" but...

It can't hurt to ask Baldurk if they'd make an exception considering The Imgur Crisis. But the archive also hasn't been updated since November last year and I got no reply on the last half dozen or so "plz archive this"-mails I've sent, so it might be worth it to find an alternative. Probably the "simplest" way, albeit also quite work-demanding, would be to upload all of the images to lpix.org and replace them in every post with their new versions.

Alternatively, you can hope someone who really really liked your LP had made a private archive of the LP. Not exactly the first time something like that happened.

Ahahaha, of course, just got the email from baldurk for 13 Sentinels' archival and I noticed a glaring error regarding an in-game year that I somehow missed in my round of proofreading pre-submission. Too late to fix it, but it's gonna haunt me forever

I've sent out emails for everything that was waiting on me in the archive queue, so it's now empty. Everything should now be with people either for them to fix something or approve it for posting. I'll do my best to stay on top of dealing with any follow up issues (aside from just clicking post) but some of it might have to wait until later in the week. In principle the images have all been fetched though so there's no immediate rush, but I'll at least get this batch out.

stick it in Stylus or whatever you use there's still a few bits of jank but not enough for me to care to fix them! e: just noticed that somehow this fucks up the search, a little bit. if a game is in your reading list at the top, it might not show up in the search if your search is too specific. ie, i have Battletech in my reading list, if i search for "battle" it shows up, but if i search for "battletech" it does not i have no idea how i broke it but since this will likely just affect me i'm not gonna bother trying to fix it biosterous fucked around with this message at 04:47 on May 25, 2023 |

I'm planning to run my first SSLP with Frostpunk, but I'm a bit worried about my screenshot resolution. They're currently at 1200x900, which looks massive on lpix, but I think the forum scales them back down, or I could use timg? I'd also appreciate any other feedback on my OP! https://lpix.org/sslptest/index.php?id=162816 Remalle fucked around with this message at 19:32 on May 1, 2023 |

If you're planning on having your LP added to the Archive when you're done, you should limit your screenshots to 900 horizontal pixels in resolution, because that's what the Archive supports. You can downscale them if you want, but that'll drop image quality. It's best to record at the resolution you plan to use in your LP. And you probably shouldn't timg screenshots in an SSLP, you'll lose a lot of potential readers who won't want to click on like 100 timgs per update. EDIT: If you're not planning to archive your LP any resolution that doesn't break forum tables is fine, and IIRC either the forums or LPix do downscale images that get absurdly large. Thanks for the advice. I did try downscaling to 900 at one point but that made the in-game text completely unreadable, and setting the game's resolution that low funnily enough also made it unreadable. I probably just won't worry about archiving it, then.

The other option is to record at a higher resolution and then crop the images to what you specifically want to show, but that can get unwieldy quickly if you had to do it for every single image.

IrfanView's batch conversion feature is a godsend in that regard. You can just throw an entire folder's worth of images into it and it will resize, rename, convert between file types, even tweak image attributes like brightness, saturation and contrast based on your predefined parameters. It takes what could take an hour by hand depending on the size of the update and does it in about a minute.

Still using Rightload in 2023 when it's been discouraged in favor of ShareX for years now. Just make sure to set the options in ShareX to only upload one image at a time, things get wonky of you have it upload multiple images at once and it might skip the last couple on accident.

Inactivity in the last 2 years threatens a lot of VLPs, I'd imagine. Time to start an archival effort? I know a good number of them are already on the Internet Archive, but not all.

Keep in mind that this seems to be related to your Google account as a whole, not just your YouTube account. Thus if you have GMail and use it regularly your YT Let's Plays are safe, even if you did one LP back in 2008 and haven't touched YT since.

If you manually delete a Gmail account, the address is not reusable. I hope they do the same in this case, otherwise it'd be quite a security risk.

Good to know there's at least that much, but I guess it also means we don't know which VLPs might be in danger. Checking YT activity is easy, but Gmail activity less so. Truth be told, we can't be certain what it means for any inactive LPer/group, unless they post here saying, "Yes, I still use my Google/YouTube account", though we can probably assume that LPs by folks that have legit passed away might be first on the chopping block.
