You can reschedule a reschedule on nsips, or you could 2 years ago. My 6 years in the reserves was loving miserable. I'm sure I've written effort posts in this thread about why the reserves are awful, somewhere.

I feel like if we were on a boat together I'd stop by your watchstation on my 2100 tour to shoot the poo poo, even though it was eating into my 4 hours of sleep. impossible scenario because Crab Dad would somehow be the COB on his first tour, even if we were the same age

That said, last I checked they were like 12 bucks on eBay.

My mom works as a high school librarian and was excited to tell me how some of her students are joining the military. Pour one out for all of them, but pour out a triple for the poor girl who decided to go nuke.

Eh, I helped a kid out the other week, they want to go military to get out of their current poo poo situation (working food service in the rear end end of nowhere) I told them if they are hell bent on joining the military, Army and Marine Corpse is a no-go, and no matter what, if you're going enlisted, get your follow-on school guaranteed in writing in your contract, "If it's not written down it didn't happen". I think they want to join the Coast Guard and be a gunner's mate cause they want to shoot guns. I told them that the Coast Guard is a safer choice, as their mission is coastal poo poo, than something like the air force where you will probably get sent to the middle of the US and rot away at a place like loving Tinker AFB. Also better than the Navy, as I've heard from a Coastie that their maximum time "underway" on what passes for a deployment for them is like 3 months, instead of the 8-12 month shitfests of the Navy. Also gave them advice about how to play the boot camp game, don't be the dumbass who gets singled out, and don't volunteer to be the leader of anything, because boot camp doesn't matter for poo poo once you're done with it, and making yourself conspicuous will just make your time there worse.

You could get sent to Tinker, or you could get a dope rear end base in Germany, Japan, or Korea. Every puddle pirate I've known has fuckin' loved their job though, that's the safe route. Jimmy4400nav posted:My mom works as a high school librarian and was excited to tell me how some of her students are joining the military. Ooof One of my GF's coworkers has a daughter who's a nuke mechanic, it sounds like she's absolutely loving miserable, rotting in Guam attached to a GN. Unsurprisingly it seems that being a woman nuke on a submarine us just slightly shittier than being a dude nuke on a submarine, so, yeah, pouring one out.

My first skipper as an officer would always have an ensign using a stadimeter to shout out distances between us and our unrep ship until we got close enough for the laser distance readers to work. Those things were nifty, and you could accurately measure distance on the fly with them.

I used the book to get a sighting at local noon on the summer solstice and did the math to get my latitude to within a mile of what the GPS says.
