Wasn't there a stink not so long back about the handling of emergency alerts versus twitter's api changes? Sometimes when there's been breaking news or some event nearby you'd check twitter to gather intel in a pinch but i guess if you're caught up in something you'll need to register an account now.

I had a bunch of geotagged search stuff and lists and those were all busted before I pulled out of twitter. unfortunately there is no longer a viable real-time churn log like twitter used to offer. if you wanted to track layoffs in a certain company, twitter was great. street by street updates on protests twitter was great for that too. thoughts on TV shows, sport events, etc. then the bot astroturfing came in and Elon bought the thing.
