Part of me still hopes Yamato will roll in by the end of Egg Head or something, especially in hindsight as Egg Head would have been an awful "first time Straw Hat" arc for him, but that's clearly cope and also seeing all this twitter poo poo pop up again maybe it was for the best

I seriously doubt Oda made any last minute changes on Yamato joining. A new crew member should be a huge deal and major part of the story backbone. That said, yeah I also dunno what he was doing with Yamato's writing wrt to being part of the crew in the last bits of Wano. The ending was kind of a rushed mess.

People always default to the Vivre Card and that one intro box saying Yamato is Kaidos daughter. But for whatever reason they ignore the fact Kiku had the same loving text box introducing her as "Izous brother." It's cause nerds get scared of jerking off to a dude. That's it.

And then it turned out that Yamato was indeed staying to protect Wano and came up with the thing about wanting to tour the country to spare Momonosuke's feelings!
