It's also noteworthy that they used the updated map that the guy who wrote a recent book about the mythology that inspired the series realized Jordan meant to depict all along with the southern hemisphere of Seanchan being much wider and the "Land of Madmen" instead called "the Madlands". It's presumably something Jordan's estate are now treating as the defacto version, since Jordan's wife was part of the editing of that book if I recall, but it's still a bit odd to see the map depicted that way. It's also a bit weird to see how narrow the Aiel Waste is compared to the landmass as a whole, when I always picture it as a massive wide stretch of land, rather than a long, narrow one. I'll always be curious about Shara as well, given how little it features in the narrative; there's not even any cities drawn on the map, as opposed to all the ones dotted around the West Lands. Weiss I think was much more of a nobody however. Hadn't had any projects get off the ground before GoT, I think. It's worth bearing in mind also that they did season 1 with GRRM himself, who had a decent amount of TV writing experience albeit a while back. And is not a bad writer. The contrast with Witcher and Wheel of Time is notable, is what I'm saying I guess.
