There’s a lot of the Stanley Parable narrator in there. It’s very impressive, really.

I have an odd/dumb question. I started reading the first Yarrick novel, and early on they encounter a construct that Yarrick calls a Gargoyle. It's described as being a tall cylander with a central command point surrounded by AA cannons at the top, on four lizard-like metal legs, with four arms each bearing different weapons. They mention an Earthshaker Cannon as one arm, six Leman Russ battle cannons as "fingers" on the second arm, a Storm Eagle missle launcher on the third, but there's no mention of the weapons on the fourth arm. If I wanted to make this "gargoyle" in real life, what would fit as the final arm? It's described as being built for long-range bombardment and having no close-range anti-personnel weapons, and the world is said to have heavy factories, but not the capability to make Titan-sized vehicles, so I'm assuming the cannons from a Baneblade or Shadowsword would be out of the question.

Stormshard mortar(s) would fill up the list pretty well. Comedy option: a single Deathstrike missile

I read Armor of Fate because I was curious about how Guilliman got the armor off, seemed like something he’d have to be very clever about or he discovered interesting information about it. lol nope, it’s like 1000 words that boil down to “it turns out the consequences are just You’ll Get Sad so he takes it off”.

I did wonder about this as I've not really been following the new era stuff. I knew G-Man was back and was stuck in his armour, then suddenly he wasn't and nobody on here really explained it outside of "he found he could take it off for a bit and then got used to it". Wut? In fairness wrt comparisons to Space Marines, if the Deathwatch TTRPG taught us anything, one of the most lethal foes a Space Marine can ever face is falling down a flight of stairs, so with the death and name, that's two points in favour for the comparison for this chap

He did Grimdark acclimation therapy, he took it off for longer and longer and forced his lungs and heart to keep working while it was off until he didn't need it anymore. I don't have any problems with Guilliman not needing the armour after a while. Dude lives in a setting where belief has real, tangible power, and billions of people believe him to be a unstoppable demi-god. Plus if the Horus Heresy books have taught us anything, it's that you need to kill a Primarch outright. If they end the fight "mostly dead" they'll soon be fine (barring any cursed Chaos stuff)

I lurk this thread quite a bit, but I have a very long flight coming up, and I need a few recs if y’all don’t mind. I’ve read the Eisenhorn trilogy and liked it quite a bit, and I’m pretty aware of the lore in general. What are a few actually good reads that can be cracked into over the course of like 11 hours? Vaults of Terra series? Sorry, I realize this is a pretty specific request.

It also does some of what I like about Eisenhorn, namely showing a bit of the imperium that isn't just bolter porn.

I think eldar are unfortunately just one of the least popular factions for the fiction. It's a shame because I think culture wise they have a pretty interesting one with a lot of facets that make it more than just a mashup of other pop culture. Honestly being craftworld seems like one of the more chill ways to live your life in a universe of nightmares, at least until they find you. I would read a whole book about a craftsman getting lost on the path of pottery.
