Because Alecto and John share a soul this makes it possible for John to occasionally speak directly to present-day Harrowhark

Relatedly to the dream chapters in Nona, it's still not clear to me whether or not real present-day John is aware of or connected to the events of the dream chapters, or if dream-John was effectively an instantiated figment. However, given the enmeshed nature of John and Alecto's souls, the former seems likely to me, which has implications for both the reliability of the memories presented in NtN and John knowing quite a lot more about Harrow's soul-swapping with Alecto, and thus being more prepared for Harrow, Alecto and Paul's mission against him.

"I can see that. Cool mutations."

Lol so I'm on my first re-read of the series, and even the first two chapters of Gideon are full of some choice lines:

"Your Lady would stone-cold eat a baby" She did! At least the soul part anyway. I guess she also wasn't given much choice...
Gideon marvelled that someone could live in the universe only seventeen years and yet wear black and sneer with such ancient self-assurance. Maybe she's born with it, maybe it's the necromantic power of 200 dead children.
"My parents should have smothered you" They tried!
'Gideon, here's a bed of writhing babes'

Size does matter, after all.
Just finished Nona the Ninth. Liked it a lot. I'm not sure I understand how Alecto's perspective in the next book is gonna work out.

I have the impression that I'm not nearly as online as Tamsyn Muir, or even the thread in general. But it's been pretty entertaining to catch the occasional reference. I'm about the same age as Tamsyn and there were a couple things that I remember stumbling upon (often literally with stumbleupon.com) back in my late teens.

I hope that we'll get a bit more detail on what The Nine Houses were actually told about the resurrection and why it was necessary, compared to the version described in NtN, which gave me the impression that John accidentally gave the unfiltered version of events

The audiobooks are some of the best productions I've ever heard. A bit of the name symbology got lost, because I tend to parse proper names in my first language instead of english, so anything with a slightly advanced pronunciation got a bit mangled.

Remember, Jod interrupted her attempt at Perfect Lyctorhood by murdering Samael mid-process, so she never became a Lyctor.

According to him this was to save her from botching it, but since John rarely tells the truth I think most of the fandom assumes this was bullshit and she had in fact cracked it.

Anyhoo, my read is that she was persona non grata with him (and also traumatized) after this episode and is not widely celebrated or talked about outside the Ninth. John considers the tomb completely unbreachable, so it's fair to think of Anastasia's custodianship of the tomb as an exile for Anastasia moreso than a job he entrusted her with
