Finnish Security Intelligence Service warns: Russia is prepared to take action against Finland, if it deems it necessary
According to the FSIS, our Nato membership does offer protection against violent attacks

Russia's invasion of Ukraine is affecting Russia's intelligence operations in Finland, and is strengthening its attempts at influencing. Russia is currently treating Finland as a hostile state. According to the FSIS, the threat of attacks on critical infrastructure has increased, but the likelihood of a crippling attack is not high. According to FSIS, Finland's relationship with Russia has deteriorated considerably, and Russia is prepared to take concrete actions against Finland.

This was reported by FSIS chief Antti Pelttari in a FSIS press conference on Thursday morning. The conference was held to publish the FSIS' new report on national security. The agency is currently investigating a flagrant act of sabotage against a gas pipeline connecting Finland and Estonia. No evidence of the guilty party has been released, but one possibility is that the act was perpetrated by Russia.

According to Pelttari the possibility of a national actor can't be excluded. FSIS is not commenting now on how likely it considers this, as the responsibility for releasing information is with the Central Criminal Police. Special investigator Suvi Alvari of the FSIS commented, that Russia benefits from the act regardless of who perpetrated it.

- It's a strong deterrent

Nato provides security to Finland
The FSIS believes that Russia's acts against Finland will likely be strengthened by Finland joining Nato, the war in Ukriane continuing, the increased confrontation between the West and Russia, and the increased sanctions against Russia.

- Russia is currently focused on the war in Ukraine, and to break down their international isolation. However, the threat of Russian intelligence and influence on Finland has not disappeared, Pelttari says.

Russia's influence aims to weaken Nato's and the EU's unity, and to lower the amount of support western countries provide to Ukraine. According to Pelttari, our Nato membership does offer protection against the "more violent forms" of influencing. According to the FSIS, Russia is interested in the concrete results of Finland's Nato membership, the material support being provided to Ukraine, and the possibility of bypassing sanctions through Finland. They also estimate that the threat of hostile actions against Finland has increased.

Spying is moving to the cyber world

According to FSIS, Russian spies are finding it harder to operate in Finland as a result of the illegal war of invasion, and the resulting diplomatic expulsions. Because of this they are forced to move their intelligence operations into the cyber world. China is also involved in spying on Finland. Their intelligence operations focus on our foreign and security policies, and our high technology.

The export sanctions levied by the United States on China increase their need to obtain information through spying. The FSIS is estimating that China is also increasing its surveillance of Finnish citizens with Chinese backgrounds.

Unprotected home routers are a significant threat

FSIS emphasizes that most of Finns are not the targets of Russian or Chinese cyber espionage, but anyone with an unprotected device, like a home router, connected to the Internet could be facilitating it. More and more devices are connected to the Internet and can be controlled externally.

This provides opportunities for illegal remote access for state actors, who are trying to break into systems belonging to Finland and partner countries. Especially unprotected or not updated home routers are currently a meaningful risk to our national security. Devices being used in critical infrastructure have a higher level of protection.

I’m sure it’s a coincidence that Russia’s premier fleet looks a lot like the failed US venture of it’s “littoral combat” bullshit.

If Russian ships are made out of aluminum, like the US’s clitoral I mean LITTORAL ships were, then Ukraine should just lob missiles with liquid mercury warheads at Russia’s fleet because look what mercury does to aluminum:

LOL those were built by an Australian shipbuilder. And the US Navy didn't do the equivalent of 'tick this box if you want' on sacrificial anodes/cathodes due to the different types of metals used.

They're painted. You have to expose the bare un-oxidized aluminum to get that effect.

So they need to be a shaped charge that sand blasts the boat then farts liquid elemental mercury at it.

It isn't a coincidence, but it goes the other way. The Littoral Combat Ship was an attempt by the US Navy to develop a capacity that Russia (along with a number of other countries) has been focusing on for decades.

Ah, I didn’t know that- thanks!

I suppose other navies have adapted a similar shape that appears to be designed to reduce their radar profile, I’m guessing.

I’m just used to Russia copying US/Western aircraft designs and concepts through the decades I figured the littoral ship design was tracking.

Yes. So they very well could, in fact, dare. Ukraine was very much something that should never have happened, yet here we are. Russian politics towards the west count on unpredictability and while I'm honestly not expecting them to, it's always a possibility.

So far everything I've read here (in Finland not itt specifically) suggests a steep increase in hybrid operations, not an invasion. It would be insanity and I doubt Putins generals would approve of it but honestly sometimes it's hard to tell.
