e: Pysyk isn't worth losing Friedman for

By no means am I saying they made the right player choice but the organizational calculus was "Ruhwedel is the consummate professional and Sullivan loves him" and they needed to move bodies and for whatever reason Friedman was the odd man out
Maybe he was sour about being up and down the last season or something. Dubas obviously trusts his analytics team and that move is just not one that is fully explainable with a raw numbers analysis of what happened

Hell, Dubas and Sullivan could have just admitted to themselves that Harkins was a mistake--or better yet, admitted to the world that Carter was a mistake and release him--and dress 7 D until one of them inevitably gets hurt. Would have left the team no worse off.

Obviously you're right that they have reasons that make sense to them (though I'm skeptical it goes any deeper than "old players good, young players bad" in Sullivan's case), but it's real annoying to watch them dump a useful player so as to keep several useless ones

Sounds like it. Don't care about the billion people onstage announcing each pick and giving the same preamble thanking everyone each time, but the idea of a team guy excitedly announcing their pick is more fun than Gary reading it. And it's neat watching guys walk down from the stands.

If the draftees still show up and there's just one or two guys from each team as the pick reader/welcoming committee, that might be the best option.

That’s cool because so far Kubalik suuuuuucks, and his role this year mostly seems to be blocking the Sens from signing Pinto.

Luckily, Tarasenko is fantastic and seems to fit whatever the Sens have going better than DBC did.

It's funny that Tom Wilson broke his body injuring people and now he's stuck in a role he physically and mentally can't keep up.

He's a poo poo bird and he deserves it.

Admittedly his punishment is a fat pile of money to get heckled by annoyed fans and maybe traded to Arizona at some point so it's not even that bad for him

Rejoice it's our favorite time of year - Rex bitches about Penguins bottom 6ers. JK Harkins sucks. Waive him into the sun. Carter is massively overpaid to not score though he's been fine on the 4th line. Dubas brain genius plan to have the bottom 6 never score or be scored on doesn't work when the Pens top 6 isn't as capable as hard carrying as Toronto's. Added the Letang has definitely moved past sliding to falling off the age regression cliff and welp not ideal. Jarry remains Jarry. Which is bad because he has not been near good enough since his playoff implosion....so rejoice Metro and NHL fans the Pens are back baby and they are exactly the same flawed shambling corpse they were last year. I will also add I think Sullivan isn't doing himself any favors by having the team play such insanely structured hockey when the talent at his disposable really lends itself to a more improv style. Bring back the gong show!

They look pretty much as we expected. They look like a team that will barely get in or barely miss. We hoped that EK and a revamped bottom six would propel them to greater heights than that but not looking likely so far.

The lazy narrative if they struggle is going to be that they're old but the old players are actually playing quite well so far. It is - once again - the depth that is killing them.

If Kyle Dubas is good at anything, it’s adding depth players to a very expensive core 4

Yeah, Wilson did reward him on his way out the door with a 4.75m x 4 year deal, despite falling to 33pts in 70gp in his "prove it" year. His stated reasoning was Labanc is a 60 point player and they were going to pay him like one.

Turns out Labanc was more of a Cheechoo flash in the plan and rode Thornton's coattails in his last really productive year being a right hander with a nice shot. They also benefitted from playing on the third line while Pavelski/Hertl/Couture took the tougher assignments.

He is a pretty good powerplay specialist (he had four points in that four goal major PP against VGK), so it doesn't make sense to me he can't crack a lineup that's giving Luke Kunin over 18 minutes a night. But he's a smaller forward who doesn't play the game the Right Way, so he's been in the doghouse for years now.

Eh it can be fully buried in the minors. He would've always expected to split time between the NHL and AHL on that deal. It's effectively just a really expensive minor league deal.

Unless you have the 'Actually Jack Johnson is good' level spreadsheet he has been the worst statistical Penguin all year and there are already 2 players in WBS with way better career NHL numbers anyways. Why they decided to claim ZAR but with even worse offensive output to play on the 3rd line I don't know.

Tanger being hurt is bad, but he's also been really bad. That said uhhhh Pens RD depth is exceedingly bad. So hooray.

Giving away their perfectly cromulent 4th RD instead of just waiving Harkins 2 days ago makes so much sense let me tell you.

I think it's more Dubas wants to fill the bottom 6 with players that have 'jam' and just don't get scored on....which might work if the top 6 is so dominant that it doesn't matter they don't score. Of course in Pittsburgh that is no longer the case. Anyways hope you're excited for uh Xaiver Oulett or Jack St. Ivy? Ugh.
