good decision. gridman is probably my favorite show i watched in 2023, although it's possible utena steals the crown at the last minute.

three eps in and i'm loving what i've seen so far. the strong direction really helps give a moody, mysterious vibe to all the weirdness of what's happening and all the tokusatsu fights are fun as hell.

This is true but sometimes it just gotta be that way. Occasionally writers just need to indulge their desire for battle shonen.

it was kinda funny how the story initially seems to be lower action where he does poisoning plots and then he whips out a battle shonen looking mask and has superpowers. its badass however

true, there would be no magician girl reverse piggyback ride if they didn't spend 10 chapters fighting the sound guy. the beast dude is a real sicko, so maybe you'll like him more than i did.

yeah the atmosphere is incredible. it also weaponizes that weirdness for absurdity (especially in how it treats the villains), but i don't know if you've gotten to anything that i'm thinking of specifically

just finished ep 7

the little low-poly city builder montage they did for the reveal that akane was a god was inspired. absolutely wasn't expecting a twist in that direction, what a great hook.

Do you feel the same way?
I loved how Melody of Oblivion, like Utena, did not give a gently caress about explaining itself when the details weren't important. Treating surreal events matter-of-a-factly, without feeling the need to justify them.

To be clear the 'sterilization' law was meant as in 'gender reassignment surgery.' IE: 'you can't have a dick and have 'female' on your ID.' This is, still very bad, but thats the intent of that whole set of laws.
