I watched The Witch From Mercury and it made me all depressed. So many innocent people die in that show. The Cathedral sends in that ship full of people in black to Vanadis and they just start gunning everyone down. The researchers don't even know why they are being killed. Later, as part of her revenge plot, Prospera causes a ton of innocent people on Earth to die. They had nothing to do with what was done to Vanadis, she just needed them to die for her plan. She was even indifferent to which of them died, as long as it was enough of them to cause a war. And they killed the 4th Elan so callously. All of the killing seems so callous in this show. I guess how that's always been throughout history? The innocent are killed so callously? All of human history feels like a sea of blood.

So you say you've watched a Gundam series and are now depressed about the horrors of war? Almost like it's the actual point of Gundam as a whole...

Regarding The Witch from Mercury again, Do either Suletta or Miorine say "I love you" to the other even once during the show?

i mean, theyre literally married at the end? A lot of het romances in anime don't really have that either.

was chit chatting with some friends the other day, all of whom happened to be asian-american. mentioned that in my family, saying we loved each other on a daily basis was normal. they looked at me like i said the pope was muslim. the degree to which very real affection is verbalized varies massively across culture

no but they do say "We'll buy rings together and have a wedding, and we'll both wear the very best dresses" so if that was supposed to be the censored de-gayed version then they didn't do a very good job of it

what is with white people's impulse to watch an anime that ends with a lesbian couple being married and go 'how can i prove this isnt gay'

like im pretty sure most straight romance anime dont have an 'i love you,' its all 'i want to spend the rest of my life with you' type stuff

to elaborate on this point: you probably dont mean it this way but the 'ah, they didn't do *this one specific thing that not every het romance does either*' thing is very common to homophobic dismissals of queer media and that is why people are reacting in a hostile manner. i would recommend letting it drop.

Really a missed opportunity to not have a follow up to that sequence with another chase scene.

Also, Nebrilos, the "up to interpretation" mentioned above isn't meant to be taken seriously. It's a pisstake based on some very stupid comments made by Bandai suits after a magazine interview with Suletta's VA Kana Ichinose was edited to remove mentions of marriage and then they released a statement where they tried to suggest that Suletta and Miorine's marital status was up to the viewer's discretion despite it being pretty blatant in the epilogue.

I take care of my mom and we have always said "bye/night, love you!" whenever either of us leave the house or go to bed. After my stepdad died, it has switched into "bye/night, love you so much!"

It helps a lot imo. It's a little thing but it's important.
