Grabbed ‘The Others’ 4K on the B&N sale. To be honest that’s not a movie I thought Criterion would do, but I’ll take it.

Well, of course I know him.

I had no idea Arrow did a nice Barbarella set until I stumbled upon it at Barnes & Noble last night. I love nice box set releases of movies you’d never really expect to get them.

I picked up Mean Streets and Baron Munchausen as Xmas gifts for my dad and I’m officially done with this sale. I think it’s the first one in a long time where I’ve managed to escape spending more than $100.

My plan is to just grab Young Guns now, then I'll eventually come back around to Point Break later this year. It's a summer movie anyway, feels weird to watch it in December.

I’m def getting Point Break on the 5th but it’s the 12th that I’m really overloaded on…

The Wailing
The Man From Nowhere
Face/Off
Clue
Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio

Then the week after is the Columbo boxset.

Scratch on the outer perimeter of the 4k disc. Here's hoping my Xbox plays the movie to the end without issue.

My last VS blind buy from the last sale that I'm finally getting around to, "I Do Not Care If We Go Down In History As Barbarians", is a fascinating piece of work. There's a really great vibe and atmosphere to it as it explores how a creator and academic can unintentionally lose their sense of empathy when working on adapting a tragedy to historical fiction, and there's a lot of philosophical and frank discussion about atrocities, history, and the ethics of how we portray it all. Very talky and very slow but I'm really hooked and the little moments of dark humor are appreciated. I also love how the way it's shot makes it seem much older than it is. I'm only a little over halfway through but it is so far a recommendation, but we'll see how strong of one it is by the end.

Don’t you love it when you sit down to watch one of your new Criterions, rip off the shrink wrap, pop it in, kinda wonder why all the logos & menu look super aliased, and within 15 seconds of the movie starting you realized you bought the loving DVD version

I’m just going to donate the drat thing to make myself pay for my stupidity, but also gently caress you to Best Buy for not having a single page per movie listing all the formats

oh man, I really liked that movie and a lot of that is because how great the whole climax sequence is. It's the culmination of the "putting on a show" angle of the movie and throws a whole different light on the discussions leading up to it. It's almost like a really dark punchline for the whole movie.

Just finished it, and absolutely. It's almost like it's the only way it could have ended. You see it coming all film and yet you hope it doesn't. drat good. Absolutely glacial pace but if that's up your alley as it was mine I gotta say it was a great blind buy. Might gift it to a friend of mine, or at least let him borrow it, since he loves My Dinner With Andre and is interested in Romanian history so I think the philosophical nature of it will really appeal to him.
