Gotta admit, I'm sick of the niners trying to pin teams deep on kickoffs. It's a stupid strategy that rarely works. It's also dangerous for the players. It is so much better to just boot it out of the end zone every single time. It's so much better, obviously, to start every drive at the 25 rather than sometimes at the 20 and sometimes at the 30 and sometimes a little better or much worse and get injuries. But they just keep doing it. And on the other end, just fair catch poo poo every time. You get the ball at the 25 no matter where you fair catch it. Fewer injuries. Very little chance of turnovers or starting with bad field position. I swear, NFO teams are pants on head stupid when it comes to kickoffs and special teams. And don't get me started on punts and having multiple kickers.

gently caress it. Gonna complain about punts, as well. Just kick it as high as possible so your coverage team can get there. You might get 5-10 fewer yards per punt, but the other team won't be able to return it which is better than giving up massive return yards. Especially, in game winning situation like the Rams today. These are easy decisions that benefit the team. And you can save a roster spot. Get your kicker to do punts. My guide to having the best special teams in the league: 1 - fair catch every kick off return 2 - every kickoff into the end zone 3 - every punt high as gently caress to force fair catches 4 - drop your punter and have the kicker perform both duties Thank you. I remember a number of years back Seattle had some stat where they had barely given up any return yards on punts all year. And it was because they just lofted it every time. It's effective but no one seems to have done it since. I guess getting a few more yards on average is worth bad runbacks.

Sounds like you just want to get rid of special teams Also kicking and punting are completely different skillsets, it's ridiculous to expect someone to be good at both. Every time a team tries to get clever with their specialist positions it gets people fired.
