I think part of it is, like was mentioned a few pages ago, not even the gender critical movement in Japan really cares about this book because it's so centered on UK and American experiences as to be irrelevant in Japan.

thats part of why there was an uproar on the jp side, the decision to translate it was made directly in response to recent local court rulings landing in decisively favorable directions for trans people. whoever made the call was very angry, about the fact that things in japan are improving
