It's just that the show is so over the top that up until that point it's very easy to overlook that Suzaku knew a cool trick and was constantly trying to show it off. I remember very little of Code Geass, both seasons. The one thing that always sticks out to me is Suzaku being an absolute superhuman dodging bullets and then running up a wall to kick a turret to death.

After having rewatched Code Geass a while back. I will say it. R2 is good. It’s not on the same level as season 1 but there’s still a ton of great poo poo happening.

kaguya is insanely successful at knowing, exactly when the concept is wearing kinda thin and doing something that fucks up the entire dynamic before going back to being a gag manga for awhile. thinking about all the other weird romantic comedy manga that started around the same time and went up in flames
